Question about Zonet V.92 FAX MODEM (zfm5600cf)

Open Question

Won't complete ISP login

Modem opens port, dials, exchanges carriers and then fails to complete the authentication process. Same problem 2 different computers. PCMCIA slot works with Zoom PCMCIA modem so trouble must be with the modem.

There is no driver for XP on the distribution disk nor on the website. We are told to use the generic XP driver.

Any suggestions? Is there a log kept of the dial-up process somewhere on disk that might provide clues?

Thanks to all.

the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of.(from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones)
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

SOURCE: connection speed

the usual maximum speed for a v92 dial up modem is around 48-52kbps, although sometimes the way windows calculates the speed can be different, showing higher speeds than is actually possible, hence the 115k that shows when connected. The only way you can get faster download speeds is to download the 'Onspeed' software which compresses pictures etc to enable twice the download speed.

SOURCE: My Zonet zfm5600cf pcmcia card did not come with a driver

According to the manual and the website there is ** special driver for XP. Here is what they say: "Windows 2000 and XP operating system can auto-detect V.92/V.90 56Kbps Data/FAX Modem PCMCIA PC Card, so it doesn't install special driver." Also they enclose a 1.4 floppy with the product holding "drivers" and the "manual". How many people still have a 1.4 floppy on their laptops.

A current (12/09) source for the driver appears to be:

I'm uncertain if the driver works, but its one of the few remaining
sites that seems to offer the driver w/o spam or lots of hoops to
jump through.....

A red light indicates that the router does not have an IP address or authentication has failed. PPP authentication settings (username/password) settings are ISP dependant. For information regarding proper configuration, contact your ISP.

WorkCenter M118 it stop sending scan over email. Insted of sending it print the NDR with error E11202

Solution : Make Sure the SMTP (Mail) Server is an Open Relay Server or Uses POP-Before-SMTP Authentication The mail server being used must be an Open Relay server or use POP before SMTP authentication. If the mail server being used requires SMTP authentication, the scan to e-mail process will fail. The WorkCentre is unable to access the mail server when SMTP authentication is required. Contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) or System Administrator for additional information.
NOTE: The WorkCentre was designed to send e-mail through internal corporate mail servers. In most cases, if using your Internet Service Provider (ISP) mail server, the scan to e-mail process will fail because most ISP mail servers require SMTP authentication to send mail. Contact your ISP for additional information.

I can not log onto my dell powerconnect 2708. I'm connecting the dell powerconnect 2708 into a hughes net modem and routing to three different locations. I would like to monitor/contol usage...

The problem you have is unlikely to be related to your server but to the modem and any ISP restrictions placed on your service i.e. it may block remote access or any port 80 traffic not originating from within your LAN. I don’t know much about your situation but it may be worth contacting your ISP to see if the functions you require are available with your hardware and contract type. Attached is a link that may help.

Lost vpi and vci settings, do i need to contact isp for this or not?

Well normally, you need not contact ISP as the router will pick it up automatically. If it does not then you need to contact your ISP to get the values. Perform the below steps to configure the router:
1. Connect the cable/phone line coming from Internet Service Provider to the WAN port of the router(isolated port).  2. Connect the computer to the router using any one of the 4 available ports.  3. Open the browser(Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox).  4. Access the router (usually http://192.168.0.1).  5. Login to the router (Username = admin Password = password unless you have changed it).  6. Click 'setup wizard'(at the top of list) from left menu.  7. Select yes and click next.  8. It should give you a "PPPoA Detected" and then click next.  9. Enter the login and Password of ISP click apply.  10. Once the settings are updated click on 'router Status' and click on 'connection status' button(at the bottom of the page).  11. Click on connect button.  12. Connecting to server should show 'connected'.  13. If you receive 'CHAP authentication failed', close the 'connection status' window and click on 'Basic settings'. Check the login and password for ISP and apply the setting again.  14. Open up another browser window and try to access internet.
I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.

I connected adsl cable but no internet connection. My old external modem still works ok, so no issue with telephone line. Do i need to configure router?

Yes - find http address to access the new modem via your computer (something like http://192.168.0.1 - varies according to model) using Internet Explorer. Go to where you can put in your username and password for your ISP (your Internet supplier), and put them in. This will be something like your.name@tiscali.co.uk (or whomever) and the password you would use to access your ISP email or webpage for your internet account. The new modem needs to know who to connect to and how to get in to your authorised inernet supply.

You most likely need to update your PPPoE login information.
This will re-authenticate your modem with your ISP
