Question about Zonet V.92 FAX MODEM (zfm5600cf)
Modem opens port, dials, exchanges carriers and then fails to complete the authentication process. Same problem 2 different computers. PCMCIA slot works with Zoom PCMCIA modem so trouble must be with the modem.
There is no driver for XP on the distribution disk nor on the website. We are told to use the generic XP driver.
Any suggestions? Is there a log kept of the dial-up process somewhere on disk that might provide clues?
Thanks to all.

SOURCE: connection speed
the usual maximum speed for a v92 dial up modem is around 48-52kbps, although sometimes the way windows calculates the speed can be different, showing higher speeds than is actually possible, hence the 115k that shows when connected. The only way you can get faster download speeds is to download the 'Onspeed' software which compresses pictures etc to enable twice the download speed.

According to the manual and the website there is ** special driver for XP. Here is what they say: "Windows 2000 and XP operating system can auto-detect V.92/V.90 56Kbps Data/FAX Modem PCMCIA PC Card, so it doesn't install special driver." Also they enclose a 1.4 floppy with the product holding "drivers" and the "manual". How many people still have a 1.4 floppy on their laptops.
