Question about Dell Inspiron 6400 Notebook
My Inspiron 6400 was working fine, then the screen will turn black. (I am using Windows Vista.) If you look very hard you can still see the what was on the screen last. But it is virtually impossible to "shut down" the computer. Also on right side (Window's Sidebar) there is a black shadow.
What is going on and how can I fix this? Any advice would be appreciated.
Hey hockey 013.well i have posted my answer in several forums b4.I own an inspiron 6400 and i m the biggest sufferer of screen going black.i panicked for about a month.the screen went black when i unplugged the power cord and sometimes while working also.
well its a software problem.its not a hardware problem as i m sure ur screen wont turn black in safe mode.stop listening to all the **** like diagnostics and all that ****!!! what i did was i uninstalled the crappy shitty graphics drivers of my ATI mobility radeon x1400 graphics card which i downloaded from dell website and i downloaded ATI omega drivers.search on internet and u will get them easily.download latest version.
it solved my problem very easily.if ur graphics card is ATI then it might solve ur problem.
i m realy annoyed to see that DELL provides such an older version of graphics card driver for ATI mobility radeon x1400 on their website.version is of 2006!!!And to make it worse when u go to ATI website to download the latest version then lol u cant find any grphics drivers for dell inspiron 6400 notebooks.
hatts off to these 2 big companies.they just **** our lives from us and dnt provide any solution.also to mention DELL technicalsupport SUCKS!!!

Could you please run the diagonistics on the computer?
Turn on the computer. When the DELL logo appears, press <F12> immediately. Select Diagnostics from the boot menu and press <Enter>.
NOTE: If you wait too long and the operating system logo appears, continue to wait until you see the
Microsoft Windows desktop. Then shut down your computer and try again.
b Press and hold the <Fn> key while powering the system on.
Make a note of any errors that you get after running the diagnositcs on the computer.
