Hoover wind tunnel

By Rodeojim on Mar 08, 2008

we have a wind tunnel "mach 4.7", I can't seem to find a model number. The unit turns off by itself, CONSTANTLY, after about 2 or 3 minutes of use. I keep it clean and clog free, but nothing seems to work. we even took it to a repairman who "fixed" it, which lasted about a month. The amount of dog hair it sucks up is incredible, but we run it on a pretty regular basis. We can only vacuum one room at a time because we need to let the damn thing "cool off". And we usually have to vacuum the rooms twice to get it all, so its takes all day to vacuum our house. any suggestions?

Same Problem

-   We have the same problem with our hoover - in fact I am waiting for it to cool off right now - ridiculous. We have replaced the HEPA filter with another Hoover HEPA and it did not fix the problem. Don't know what else to do. You are right, though - it takes forever to vacuum the house - sometimes can't even get through a room. Let me know if you find any solutions. Thanks! Good luck to you!-   Guest

-   I think I have fixed this problem. My wife said there were no clogs so of course I had to check and found none. What I did find was the HEPA filter was very dirty and she had used an Arm & hammer replacement filter. I replaced the filter with a Hoover brand and so far it is working fine-   Guest

Replace the HEPA filter with a Hoover filter. Don't use the Arm & Hammer brand sold at Wal-Mart because these filters have an aditional layer to hold the air freshener which restricts air flow causing the filter to clog faster making the unit over heat.

A clog or partial clog is what causes the motor to overheat, then a thermo protector will cut off and the motor will stop until it cools down. So either you do have a clog, in the hose or down by the brush roll. If they are clear, and the filters are clean, then maybe the thermo protector is bad and needs to be replaced.
