I am assuming IDE not SATA ? did you set the jumpers on the drives themselves? the seagate 80 to master the 20 to slave. The jumpers are on the front of the drives next to the connectors. Next connect to the motherboad behind the master drive or seperately on a 2nd IDE connector. If you are connecting both with one cable make sure the master is added to connector at the end of the cable.

the jumpers are not a ribbon .. the jumpers sit between the IDE connector (connects between the motherboard and the harddrive) and the power connector (connects harddrive to power supply) ... take a look at this illustration

hopefully there were jumpers accompanying the HDD when you bought them, if not you can probably take them from old harddrives or get them at any computer store. Again, you will set the 80 to master and the 20 to slave.

btw .. you will only need one jumper as the slave drive is set to slave with no jumpers, remove the jumper from the 20G slave drive and you should be good to go.

My seagate is an old hard drive and I want to use it as a slave along with my Excelstor Drive. The Old drive cannot be detected in any way. Could anyone post a detailed step-by-step on how to get my...

Firstly check if the drive spins up, if it doesn't it means the drive is blown, and the only way that you could get that working is to replace the board, which can be tricky.

You would be better off getting a new drive altogether.

Not detecting hard disk. when i plug my IDE hard drive the red and yellow LED in my computer always light

Be sure about Master-slave pin jumper. If it is sharing same cable from main HDD please set it as slave, but if alone, then set is as master or Cable Select.

How to format IDE hard drive?

This drive is an IDE drive. The jumpers can be set on it to make it a slave.
Once set as a slave, you can identify the drive letter given to this drive and format it either at a command prompt: C:> format [drive:] /s (to make it bootable) or no /s to just format it.- OR within Windows: right click on the drive letter and select format.
