My IBM Thinkpad laptop does not connect to my Verizon DSL/Wireless 327G Gateway. It sees the network, but cannot connect. The laptop can connect to other unsecured wireless networks in the neighborhood and at other public places, but not to my home Gateway which was supplied by Verizon. The wireless setting on the Gateway are as follows:

-   I could connect fine until a couple of weeks ago. Now, if I shut down or suspend my laptop, it will not connect again unless I reset the Westell router. Extremely annoying to say the least. Does anyone know if Verizon/Westell recently updated the firmware in these units?

-   I have the same problem. My HP laptop can connect to other wireless network but no westell. On the other hand, my other laptop (Dell) can connect to Westell without problem. It seems like that just my HP doesn't communicate with Westell for some reasons.-   gzhou2000
the best thing to do so that you can isolate the problem is to connect your computer first to the gateway using the ethernet cable. make sure first that connectivity is not an issue if you're using a wired connection. once that's done, try accessing the modem, 192.168.1.1 is the address for your westell. all this is while you're connected with a cable. it will be very hard to fix this issue if you're not wired connected able. check the ip address of your computer. it should start with 192.168.1.xx, any other ip address it will mean your computer is not connected to the modem. if it's a 192 ip address, check the ip add in your modem, it be a routable ip add. for example if you're isp provider is verizon, more often the ip address should start with a 71 to a 74. most likely it will be because you can go online using a wired connection. next thing you should check is your wireless settings in your modem. find out your connection type with you isp. if you have a dhcp or open pppoe, turning off and turning on again your modem will fix things, almost always. if you have a pppoe connection, you have to make sure you have the right username and password. after this, check the properties of your wireless connection by clicking on properties in the wireless network icon, check if you need a WEP key if its secured. sometimes changes in the properties of your wireless network is the problem. if this still doesn't work, there might be a defect with your modem, better call tech support for that. you might need to replace the modem. if you're still under warranty do it now because if not, you will have to buy a new modem if it's found that you have a defective modem.

I also have the same problem. I have found that if I turn the router off and then turn it back on, I can then connect to the router. Mike

Some pictures don't play on the media server - I get an error message 'failed to play media content'. I cannot decipher the reason for this - there doesn't seem to be any commonality (file name size, file size, resolution). The files are all .bmp or .jpg - supported formats. Video and Music all are OK ...any suggestions...?

Westell VersaLink 327W I have a mini LAN setup with the modem set to do MAC filtering plus WEP 128bit. I have 4 computers hooked up. 1 direct the other 3 wireless. The modem can see all 4 and let's all 4 go to the internet. On the "my network" tab from the Westell setup it shows the ethernet connection and 2 of the wireless. The other wireless is there but it shows as unknown connection type. Computers are running; Win XP Pro 2002 SP2 on ethernet 1. Win XP Pro 2002 SP1 on Wireless 1. Win Vista Home Basic on Wireless 2. Win Vista Home Premium on Unknown connection. I can access unknown connection from all computers I can access all others from unknown connection. All settings have been checked and double checked. I turned off my firewall on unknown connection with no change in status. I re-input WEP codes and MAC addresses. I resett the modem and started from scratch twice. I know it seems a bit anal but it bugs me that the modem can't seem to detect the connection type. Any idea?
