March 5-2008 Re: DVD Xpress. Part numer USBAV-701 Rev B
Using: MS Windows XP PRO. Vers 2002. Service pack 2
MMD Athelon XP1800+, 1.46 GHz. RAM 512 MB
C-Drive 40GB, 18GB free.
D-Drive 20 GB, > 12 GB free.
DVD recorder: LG Model GSA-H55N
The above atributes meet all the requirements listed in the user information for the H44N DVD recorder. As an additonal note; the AthelonXP1800+ appears to be a Pentium IV processor.
We can copy two VHS tapes to D-Drive as MPEG-2 files. File#1, 2.42 GB. File #2, 1.10 GB. Joined together approx. 3.70 GB
The MPEG files will reproduce with MS Media Player. We can join two files together. Every attempt to record to DVD disk terminates at about 82% with a total "hangup" of the computer.
No recovery, no Ctrl + Alt + Del, no Escape.
This DVD Express device was AOK previously recording Video clips to CDs.
After replacing the CD optical drive with a DVD drive we have had no success recording a DVD.
Although this DVD drive will not record a DVD it will re-play a DVD disk to monitor.
Furthermore it will record a CD (data). This must mean the “burning” laser is OK.
Will adding more RAM to the computer overcome this problem?

No, ram should not be the problem... you should first reinstall your os and use nero 6.66... that can happen because of many things but you can this before reinstalling:
make a new account on window xp, delet your existent...
start the system in safe mode... if it allows you to burn the dvd in safe mode your problem is operative system...
in fact if the problem is solved by burning from a new windows account... that should be all...
the problem could be caused by:
bad or low transference IDE cables... you need ATA 66 cables minimum...
problems with burning software ( if you already have nero, uninstall it completely and install a newer version), there are many free trials on the internet.
of course more RAM would be a great help... but the problem isnt that...
