XPS One power switch doesn't function - lights up blue but then nothing else happens. I then hold it down for 30 seconds so all the power is drained from the computer and then try again, which occasionally works. Once it's on, the computer is mostly ok. This follows issues from the past few months where the CD/DVD reader would light up randomly even though nothing was in it and the fans would run randomly, but those issues seem to have stopped for now and I just have the power switch problem. I purchased this computer in May 2008. Any thoughts?

Sounds like the power supply is not working properly and should probably be replaced.

My laptop won't start up it turns on but then nothing

Unplug the power, remove the battery and then hold the power button for 30 to 60 seconds. Then reattach the power and attempt a boot.

If it boots, then shutdown, add battery and restart.

The laptop's screen display may remain black when there is a corrupted graphics driver, or a problem with the LCD display's back light. (Try tilting the screen to 30 degrees and see what happens.)

It could possibly be that your outputting to the wrong screen - most laptops have a "Fn" button that can be pressed in conjunction with a little screen on the keyboard to switch to either internal display or external (say F1 or F2).

Try turning off the laptop, unplugging it, pulling out the battery and holding power down for 30-60 seconds. After that's done, put the battery back in, plug it back in, and turn it on.

The blue standby light stays on, when you press the button nothing happens and no picture, switched off at the mains for 12 hours then back on again still the same.

Unplug the T.V. and hold the power button for 30 seconds. Plug it back in and see if you can get anything. If nothing happens you might need a firmware update or there might be a problem on the board that would need repaired.

Wont start up

We will see if the problem is due to the static charge accumulated on the laptop. Disconnect the power cable from the laptop and also take out the battery. Also, disconnect all the external devices attached to the laptop e.g. external mouse, keyboard, printer. Now keep on holding down the power button on the laptop for the next 30 seconds. Put the battery back and plug the power cable. Now try turning on the laptop and let me know if it works. Thanks!
