Dryer will not start. When I push the start button nothing happens. If I put my ear close to the timer I can hear a faint hum. Door switch and thermal fuse have both been ruled out. What is the next step? "On" switch reads 1.60 on the multimeter when I disconnect everything from it and test it. Is that switch bad? It is a 1988, should I take the hit and buy a new one?

My dryer will start when I hit the start button but will not continue to run. I changed the door and light switch because it was bad but the dryer will not run unless I tape the start button down. Any suggestions? Thanks! And Jesus does Save.

We're having the same problem. Has been working just fine... now when we push the start button, it just clicks. Can also hear the timer humming, but nothing else. Power is on, as the light comes on when you open the door. Tried replacing the Wrinkle Guard switch, which was acting up earlier, but it didn't help. Please HELP!!!

It may be as simple as a thermal fuse. Some Whirlpool dryers have power for the motor going through the theraml fuse.

Hit start button but dryer will not start can hear the timer running

Open the dryer door and press the door switch , to make sure you hear a distinct " click " . If the door switch seems ok , then remove the rear dryer panel ( UNPLUG DRYER FIRST ) . On the blower housing , you will see a white 1" long piece ( thermal fuse ) with 2 wires plugged onto it . This is the piece you need to replace . #3392519 is the Whirlpool part number .

My dryer does not start when i hit the start button. I have checked power to the dryer, it is good. I have taken my digital multimeter, to check start button, that tested fine. I checked all connections on...

It is probably one of the limit switches inside the dryer most likely the high limit went bad and will not allow the dryer to run or the door switch could have gone bad these are two very good places to start check the door switch first and if that checks out I would check the high limit.

Dryer wont react when hit start button

HI, Sounds like Normal 0 , UNPLUG the dryer! Remove the rear panel of the dryer and locate the fuse. It is white and ¼” wide and 3” long. It is located on the blower housing. Remove the wires and check to see if it has continuity. If it does not, you need to replace it.
Please let me know if this help or if I can assist you further.

Thanks
Vic

Whirlpool dryer model LEQ8800JQ won't start when push start butto

I posted today (Jan 2, 2009) that I had same problem. Handyman tested for blown thermal fuse, etc and everything was fine. He said I have to replace the timer switch .. well guess what - I fidgeted with the start button (on/off) hard a few times while simultaneously pressing & releasing door switch and it did the trick. In my case the problem was most likely with the start button. Dryer is working fine now!
