I have the same problem. Tried return, enter, power like the manual said, tried unplugging it and power, stop, eject at the same time. Nothing works. I never locked this in the first place. Sony used to make the best electronics but everything I have purchased in the last few years is junk.

tray locked same problem same unit

"LOCKED" is displayed when I try to open the DVD player. I had a library DVD in the tray at the time, so I had to force the tray open to get it out.

Called Sony and Best Buy but since I'd had it for a year or so, they would do nothing for me. Very irritating. I thought buying a Sony would mean reliability.

My unit did the same thing and I read all the answers to every question. The plain fact is that if you turn it on and it says locked and you did not do it and you tried all the remedys then send it in like I did and get another or. Stop prying these units open to get you discs out. Carefully lean the unit to one side to prevent the discs from falling out of the tray. Locate a small hole in the bottom of the unit and insert a flat head scredriver until you feel the slot. Rotate the screwdriver either way until the tray starts to open. Mine had a flat blade opening yours could be a phillips. If you have already opened the unit, turn in over get a flashlight and look through the hole and you will see what I mean.

This worked for me:

Don't bother with the tech support line. Take a philips screwdriver and remove the 2 large screws on the sides of the unit, then the 3 screws in back that attach the shell to the main body of the unit. Slide the shell back. You can now access the DVDs that your Sony player has kidnapped.

This is totally ghetto, but you CAN change discs now. I bought the unit for $99, and tech support wanted me to ship the unit on my own dime, plus pay $99 for a refurbished unit, PLUS shipping back to me. This was their best solution. :|

You can try unplugging the wires/cables inside and then re-inserting them, but it didn't work for me. I recommend turning the power off first.

I will probably use the changer this way for a while, but I'll be looking for a new unit to replace it with.

I really thought I was safe buying this big name brand, and the unit served me well for 2 years... Next time I'll do more research first, because this seems like a common issue.

Locked dvd tray.

To unlock, manually press and HOLD the open/close button & the stop button simultaneously, and HOLD them both down until the lock picture disappears.   The DVD will eject when you press the open/close button.

To lock the DVD inside the machine, repeat the same step, and it will lock it inside.
