Question about Macromedia Contribute 3 And FlashPaper 2 (vctd030dct10) for PC, Mac

1 Answer

Uploading initial webpage - macromedia contribute 3

Hi there,
Hopefully you can help. I have my domain name and webhosting all in place. And I used the Macromedia wizard to enter the remote ftp host, username, password etc. Then I put together a quick page to upload as my initial homepage. I connected via Macomedia to my website which at the momet has a standard page on it from my server (place-holding it). Now I want to get rid of that and "publish" my first page. HOWEVER, when I hit publish, it says I can't upload it because 1) there is no link to the new page from the page already there and 2) I can't edit the page already there (I'm sure because it is my server's page) to add that link. HELP!!!
Any assistance you can give me would be MUCH appreicated - I'm not tech-savvy but can follow easy directions.
Thanks very much,
SC

Uploading to the internet...

sounds like you just registered a domain name and purchased a web hosting package? if so your web host (godaddygo) should have supplied all that information (server name, username/pw, where to drop your files, etc.)

in general a host would give you a username/pw which you would use to a) sign in to some site to manage your account, b) sign into the ftp server, c) possibly use to sign into an email account that came with the package.

for ftp access to your web files it would typically be something like this
- if your domain was mywebsite.com the host name you use with your ftp software might be ftp.mywebsite.com (just an example - godaddy should give you that information)

once you login through ftp, yes you would typically see a folder called public_html - this is where you copy all your website files - once they are there then people access them by going to http://www.mywebsite.com (and any subfolder name you decide to create under the public_html folder)

you may also see a public_ftp folder - this is typically used to store files that you want to give access for downloading (software, movie files, etc.).

hope this helps - write back if you need more.

Reinstalling Contribute 3

Hi,this is how you can re-install Contribute 3 .
Make sure that you un-install previous installation first and then follow these steps to re-install.

You can either click on
http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_19596 or

Copy the Contribute_Installer.msi from the FSCOMMAND folder on the CD to C:\.
  1. Bring up the Command Prompt program from Start > Programs> Accessories > Command Prompt.
  2. If Contribute is already installed then uninstall Contribute which will also automatically uninstall FlashPaper. To uninstall Contribute 3 you can go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs and select Macromedia Contribute, or use the command line with the following line of code:
    C:\>msiexec /X ?C:\Contribute_Installer.msi"
  3. Run the Installer from command line as follows.Note: The syntax must be exact for this command to execute. If spaces or extra characters are added, the install will not work. Here is the command:
C:\>msiexec /I "C:\Contribute_Installer.msi" ADDLOCAL=ConfigurationFiles,MLM,DesktopShortcut,QuicklaunchShortcut,ProgramFiles,HelpFiles,Contribute
  1. After the command has executed, enter exit to close the Command Prompt window.
After the install has completed you will be prompted to enter the serial number again. If there are any problems, remove Contribute, using step three above. Then, repeat step four to run the installer again.
