Kodak V550 EasyShare

My camera will turn on, lens opens but then it immediately shuts off. I've just replaced the battery and that didn't do the trick.  Please tell me you all have a solution... I see a ton of other peple have the same issue, but no one has responded with a solution.

I ended up saying goodbye to the kodak, as much as I loved it.  Too many people were having the same issue and it was going to cost as much to fix it as to buy a new one. I own a Nikon now.  Still grieving my kodak.

same problem. 2 years all was fine. now lens goes out then in and immediately turns off. Repair scheduled to cost 135 dollars by Kodak. Is it worth it. Or is there a better solution. Please advise. JKush

I just wanted to add here that I have the same problem with my EasyShare. I had it almost exactly two years, and two fully charged batteries to switch between. I turn it on, the screen briefly lights up, then it shuts off again. Perhaps these cameras are designed to self-destruct after two years??

I just got my second one of these little cameras, used, and this one has the dreaded 'power on then power off' problem.

I noticed that it works for everything EXCEPT pictures. It works in the dock, it charges and it powers on for favorites and to set date and time when the battery is pulled and replaced.

It is only when the lens extends that it turns off. I cleaned the battery terminals with an abrasive pencil eraser, you know, the old red eraser #2 pencil from grade school, and put the battery back in and sort of wiggled it to clean the oxidization off the terminals, and viola, it powers on to take pictures!

The battery goes dead in 5 or 6 pics, and guess what, it turns on and back off until the battery is fully charged.

Here's why! When these batteries fail, they cannot produce the current to power the lens. They may indicate full charge but they aren't!

If you can remove your battery, plug in the charger to the camera, (not the dock) and turn it on and take pictures, your camera is fine, it's the battery. If you cannot turn on in 'favorites' or see the date and time, and then go on to picture taking with just the charger connected, (and yes, the battery needs to be out to check this) then the problem really is your camera.

I have ordered a new battery, and I will post if it fixes it completly.

Hmm, that happened to me too when the battery was dead. try recharging your camera. make sure it is sitting on the charging dock right. make sure the charger is plugged in and it's working. see if the battery was put in correctly. if none of this helps, try a different battery, maybe the one you bought is no good. who knows what shelflife is on those

When I power up the camera the lens opens and immediately retracts and the camera shuts off. I've attempted to push every button while turning on the camera to no avail. I also held onto the lens when it...

Have you made sure that the batteries are LiIon and fully charged? I had a similar problem with a Kodak Easyshare camera that required the higher voltage LiIon battery pack rather than alkaline AAs which will fit in there but is not exactly right.

A family member of mine had that exact same camera and it did the exact same thing (though, he left his in the snow all night).
The way he got around it, was to turn it on, and then hold on to the lens to prevent it from closing back into the camera.
This trick always worked for him, but if you do it, it may mess up more things with the camera. If it's a risk you are willing to take, go for it!

Lzoom lens goes out and in, immediately, then camera turns off

Pull the battery and plug the charger into the camera. It should turn on and take pics now. If it does, you need a new battery!

Yeah, I know, the battery shows fully charged but it's weak and old so it really doesn't have the current to drive the lens.

Try to clean the battery terminals with an abrasve pencil eraser, (old red eraser #2 pencil from grade school) and wiggle the battery in the camera (gently) to clean the terminals inside the camera.

Let the camera charge the battery completly, (not in the dock!) and see if it turns on.

If it does, you will probably find that it discharges VERY quickly.

Buy a new battery! That extra battery that you have had since you bought the camera is probably also shot! They do have a shelf life!

If the camera does not turn on with just the charger, (no battery) then it's probably a lens error, but you should see an error code if it is.

Good luck!

Kodak v550 digital camera

Hey akpssttt, I had the same problem with my kodak and even though I was able to turn on the camera, the lens would not come back in. So after awhile I just gave up took it to the repair shop and they still weren't able to fix it. So I left the camera for about a year now, gathering dust, but recently I decided to give another shot, and amazingly when I plug the camera into the charger, the lens went back in! And now the camera works perfectly.

So I would suggest you leaving your camera out for awhile and do not charge it until the batteries is completely drained. And then plug it back into the charger.

Hope this help.

Kodak V550 Camera Problems

Sounds like a new battery would do wonders. I would contact Kodak and see if hey will offer you a new battery. If not then I would go buy one. The battery is probably the most likely to go bad so fast on a camera.
