Question about Brother HL 1440 Laser Printer

Brothe HL 1440 leaves part of letters off intermitenetl

I have replaced the toner cartridge and the drum unit but I still have a persistent problem of some text having while lines at the bottom of the text. Is the problem in the laser lens or could it be a driver problem? I do not know how to clean the lens if that is the problem.

Recently had this happen. The following solution from Brother seemed to fix it.

  1. Gently wipe the scanner window with a soft dry cloth. The scanner window is located on the roof of the inside of the printer.
  2. On the top of the drum unit (DR400), locate the blue tab on the left side. Slide it back and forth across the drum about 30 times.
  3. Remove the toner cartridge (TN430 or TN460) from the drum unit. To remove the toner from the drum: hold down the blue lever on the right side of the drum and lift the toner off of the drum unit.
  4. Inside the drum unit there is a green roller. Wipe the green drum roller with a dry tissue (i.e. Kleenex). You may turn this roller by moving the gears on the far left side.

Have you tried to repalce the drum as well?

I've seen this before on some printers, and neither replacing the drum or toner will help. the problem is with another piece inside the printer, that simply has had its lifetime.

replacing the printer its usually cheaper than repairing.

Where is the cartridge on a brother laser printer HL-1400

I don't see a Brother HL-1400 on their site. However, there is an HL-1440 which uses the TN-430 (regular) or TN-460 (high yield) toner cartridges. This printer also takes the DR-400 drum unit.

This toner cartridge works with several models in the HL-1400 series, including the HL-1435, HL-1440, HL-1450 and HL-1470N.

I hope this helps.

Brother HL 1440 How do you change printer drum

The printer drum (photoconductor) is part of the toner unit.
There is a button on the left side of the printer.
Push the button. The front will open up.
The drum unit and toner can be pulled out.
Remove the toner unit from the drum.
Install the toner unit into the new drum unit.
push the whole unit back into the printer.

Changed the drum & ink cartridge in HL-1440-ink bleeds on edge

Hi there,

This problem is often caused by spilled toner. Open the printer, carefully remove the cartridge, and give it a few bursts of compressed air. Often running several pages or type through will also fix this. If it persists, replace the toner cartridge.

Hope this initial info/idea helps. Let me know for any clarifications.

I need to install a "new drum". What's that? It's on an HL-1440 Laser Printer. How does it come apart?

The drum unit is the unit that you have been installing your toner cartridge into. It is the part you pull out of the front of you printer, remove and replace the toner cartridge into. So in other words remove the unit from your machine, remove the toner cartridge as you normally would. Now what you have left sitting there is the drum unit.
Here is a picture of the drum unit.

Brother HL1440 has dirty lines on copy how can I clean. Is there something I can buy I am not mechanically inclined.

its the drum or the toner. if you have an old toner run a test with it. If it clears up its the toner cartridge. If not its the drum unit. I sell the toner cartridges for 40 and drum for 65. Steven 818-888-0006

Prints ok, but dirty page. Happened suddenly. No lights are on. HL 1440.

The problem is with the toner ow paper feeding. Proper feed the papers, if that dosn't solve you may have to change the toners. It is best that you put a new one. If that dosn't solve then thre cables must have got damaged. Send it to Repair.

Toner

Likely thing is that you have a faulty toner cartridge return it to the store and ask for a replacement in exchange as yours is faulty. IF this does not cure the fault then maybe the drum unit causing the fault and this may need replacing.

HL-1440 Prints blank

Hi,
Since you've already done the initial steps in troubleshooting the unit, another user serviceable solution it to replace the drum unit. Please note however that the drum unit is a expensive consumable part. It is best if you can test your unit using a known working drum unit. Beyond replacing the drum unit, the only option remaining is to have it professionally serviced. Blank print outs are classic symptoms of a main PCB failure, Laser unit failure and/or a loose wire harness. Please note that high voltage and current reside inside the printer. Please leave this tinkering to the professionals.

Black spots on my documents Brother HL-1440

Stray dots (on a vertical imaginary line on the page) may not require an expensive drum replacement. In my situation, I simply followed these steps:
(1) Open up the printer, remove the toner-cartridge/drum assembly, and remove the toner cartridge from the drum.
(2) For purposes of reference, place (and center) a sample page of the "offending" output in the bottom of the drum housing, lining up the dots so that the page is turned the way it would have fed through the printer, placing the page generally in front of the shiny green roller surface. Loo, for where any matching black dot or other thing might be sitting on that surface.
(3) Gently roll the green surface's roller with its outside end pegs (without touching the green surface) if and until such a matching dot (or dots) can be found. (Multiple dots might appear along other imaginary verticals on the page, which is to say, additional vertical striping is occurring because there are more instances of "items/dots/garbage" arrayed across the roller on the horizontal, to produce repeat images down the page as the page feeds through the printer.)
(4) Take a Q-tip and very, very, very gently "polish" away the dot(s) you found on the green roller. (I ended up just dabbing the dot I found--which had consistently left a trail of three dots down my pages, in different locations because of the distance the roller traveled relative to the page size--using the absolute least amount moisture to remove it.)
(5) Clean the drum's corona wire by moving the blue plastic slider back and forth, and leave the slider at the far left point.
(6) Reassemble the toner cartridge and the drum and place the assembly back in the printer.

(7) Test.
Worked great for me. Done in around five minutes. No cost, except for the negligible cost of a Q-tip. No time waiting for a new drum to show up, etc.
