Question about Microsoft Windows XP Professional With Servise Pack 2 (e8503040) for PC
You can try an online virus scan solution:
for example here: http://housecall65.trendmicro.com/
otherwise, it might be a simple problem caused by the wrong association of file types and programs to open them.
Seems that somehow your association table got broken.
I dont know any automatic way of solving this ( it is easy to do by hand, but a tedious work)
think about doing a re-install of your windows.
ps: Remember to create a ghost image of the OS for later rescue. it saves alot of time.
