all the encryption softwares use different encryption algorithm.i.e. different steps to encode a file.
the other software shows that the file was not encrypted because for this software, you previously encrypted file is an original file and not encrypted file.
to decrypt the file you need that very encryption software that you used earlier.

Picture file MENC can't open in my PC

.MENC file extension is a Windows Mobile Encrypted File.

Open this link to read more about .MENC file. It say's there,

"MENC files are designed to be decrypted by the device that created the file. Therefore, MENC files can be transferred to a PC using Windows ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center, but it may not be possible to decrypt the file on the computer. Also, changing the GUID on a MENC file will disable the ability of the decryption program to properly decrypt the file.

To avoid encrypting files, go to Settings ? System or Settings ? Security on the Windows Mobile device and uncheck the box that says "Encrypt files placed on storage cards.""

I had windows xp home edition i have data of almost 20gb and i had encrypted it.due to some reason i had to reinstall my OS and now im not able to view those files as it is encrypted.so can anyone tell me...

Your going to have to locate the decryption tool that was supposed to come with the tool you used to encrypt the information. If you don't have that tool anymore you may be able to locate it on the internet. If that fails you will have to try a tool that decrypts files and hope it has the proper public key to get to your information. Most of these tools use a public key but figuring out which one is the hard part. Other than using a decryption service that will cost I don't see another option.

The Seagate encryption algorithm works for files 4GB or smaller. It will however encrypt larger files but it will not decrypt them! How do I decrypt files larger than 4GB ? Seagate admits there is a...

That posses a problem. They know there is a problem with the algorithm but don't plan to fix it. Wonderful. The problem is this, you would have to know what the algorithm was to be able to do anything about it and I doubt very seriously they are going to release that. That leaves you with the option of hiring a hacker to break the code or paying a specialty company to break the code and they are not cheap or well advertised. I can't think of any companies that do that work anymore. You are going to have to identify a Security company or the company that originally developed the Algorithm and see if you can work out a deal to get the corrected algorithm. The problem you have is your algorithm was designed for files smaller than 4gb and there is a permutation error that occurs on files that are larger. In a lot of cases this is a random fault that makes it very difficult to identify if not impossible depending on what level of encryption the algorithm actually represents. 32 or 64 bit encryption isn't so bad but 128 or higher is a real pain and expensive. There are some software packages available out there if you search the web for them, "Decryption Software", but again it is expensive and hard to find.

How to convert menc file to jpg

Apparently the files are encrypted and can be decrypted only on the handset/Mobile unit it was encrypted on.

To prevent getting such file type in the future, follow this procedure
Start>Settings>System Tab>Encryption
UnCheck on encryption and after this you will get only normal (Unencrypted file).

Another way is the activesync way. Transfer the file from the handset to pc via ActiveSync, it will automatically decrypt and paste the regular format on to your PC.

Hope it helps

Contacts locked with menc file extension

You will be able to tell the difference when you can remove the storage card and insert it in another device or card reader. Encrypted files will be displayed as .MENC files, with the following filename convention:
[filename].[extension].[GUID].menc
The [GUID] is the encryption key that determines whether the file can be decrypted on the device where the storage card is inserted. The .menc extension is the indicator that tells whether a file is encrypted. The purpose of the extension is to indicate that you can't open those files. A Lock icon is also associated with the encrypted files.
When you insert the storage card back to your device where the files were encrypted, the [GUID] will match with the decryption key on your device and the [GUID].menc extension will not be displayed. Encrypted files will appear just like normal files and they can be opened.

I CANNOT VIEW MENC FORMAT

The .menc extension is the indicator that tells whether a file is encrypted. The purpose of the extension is to indicate that you can't open those files. A Lock icon is also associated with the encrypted files.
When you insert the storage card back to your device where the files were encrypted, the [GUID] will match with the decryption key on your device and the [GUID].menc extension will not be displayed. Encrypted files will appear just like normal files and they can be opened.

Decrypting files:
To decrypt files that are encrypted, the current solution is to transfer them from the storage card to a computer via ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center, and then copy them back to the storage card after the Storage Card Encryption has been disabled on the device.
  1. To disable Storage Card Encryption:
  2. Go to Start>Settings>System Tab>Encryption.
  3. Uncheck the box that says “Encrypt files placed on the storage card.”
  4. Tap OK.

How I can "Decrypt data files" on Win XP Professional.

Since you reinstalled the OS, the certificate for the user has changed. You can try the following methods, but there is no guaranty it will work.
These method apply only if the computer name and users name stays the same as the original. If the machine name or the users name or the users privilege changed, these method will not work.

Only the following people can decrypt an encrypted file:
· The user who encrypted the file
· Any user who was designated as a recovery agent before the file was encrypted
· Any user who has the public key or private key for the recovery agent or the user who originally encrypted the file
· Any user who has been granted access to the file
Members of the Administrators group cannot decrypt files unless the person who encrypted the files designated them as recovery agents before encrypting the files.

Note You must be the original user who encrypted the file or a designated recovery agent for the file to follow these steps

Method 1:
To remove encryption from a file, follow these steps:
1. Use Windows Explorer to locate the encrypted file that you want to decrypt.
2. Right-click the encrypted file, and then click Properties.
3. On the General tab, click Advanced.
4. Click to clear the Encrypt contents to secure data check box, click OK, and then click OK again.
