Question about Televison & Video
LG 42LB5D Lcd
sound cuts off in HDMI mode. If I hit the volume key it goes back on. any ideas? should I call for service? the cable company tells me it's not cable box and it is not the HDMI cable. When I switch to cable mode; there is no problem. what's up?
Dude i hope this isn't too late... Same TV I had the same problem with my ps3. I bet someone told you all HDMI cables are created equal but there not. I upgraded monster 800HD hdmi cable and not only was the picture so much richer but the annoying volume issue went away. I bookmarked this page hoping you'd figure it out but now i have the solution.
cons: the cord will set you back about 100 dollars.

Sounds like you need a firmware upgrade one of the reported fixs on this model for your problem is to do a firmware upgrade. I don't think LG will send the file to a consumer but you need to call them anyway it goes if ti's not firmware then it's most likey the digital cba assy. LG 800-253-0000 Good Luck

Inspect where the dark streaks are on the television. If the streaks occur at the same place on the top and bottom of the screen, they are due to the formatting of a movie or television show you are watching. This is normal. Also, if the streaks appear on the left and right of the screen, they are due to the show being filmed in full-screen instead of wide-screen. This also is normal.
Change the input setting so you are viewing the contents of a different device. If the dark streaks are gone, you know they are due to the device connected to it. However, if the dark streaks remains no matter what input the TV is connected to, the problem lies with the television.
