Provided you have the WinXP OS, all you need to do is add a USB 2.0 adapter card to your PC. You can get one from any computer retailer, such as Best Buy and Circuit City. Reputable manufacturers of the cards include Adaptec (www.adaptec.com), D-Link Systems (www.dlink.com), and IOGEAR (www.iogear.com).

The basic process includes opening the computer case, inserting the adapter card into an available expansion slot (being careful to ground yourself first to prevent static electricity discharge), and installing a device driver (software that lets a hardware component, in this case a USB adapter card, communicate with the rest of the computer system). After installing the card, make sure you get the USB update for your OS.

The porblem seems to have soted itself out after I've removed the USB drivers and then let windows re-install them automatically.
You remove the USB drivers in the Device Manager which is in the Systems icon, under the Control Panel

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

Try using a webcam sharing application like SplitCam or SplitVideo. These programs allow you to share a webcam across applications, and can also help solve compatibility problems.

Cant download new software

You should be able to use any webcam software. Webcam hardware is not typically linked to the software. I use my own webcam (Logitech) with Yahoo! IM, Skype and Windows Live using the native drivers that came with the webcam. That said, there may be a Microsoft version that works better with Windows Live in conjunction with your vx1000.

Microsoft lifecam 1000

You can download the driver here :- http://www.opendrivers.com/driver/236296/microsoft-lifecam-nx-6000-vx-1000-vx-3000-vx-6000-driver-1.21-windows-xp-free-download.html
the camera has a built in microphone,so after a proper installation you should have the video and mic funtioning.
but in your case, the cam doesn't work, so you have to try first uninstall the driver >> unplug the camera USB port >> then make a restart >> plud the camera back into the usb >> and install the drivers again.
