You will have to contact the SONY COMPANY and tell them that your UMD system doesn`t work. The net dday you will have to mail them your psp and if your guarantee is not expired they fix it for free and they should refund your shipping cost.

NEED HELP

Take a can of air and gently blow some onto the laser in the drive.

Then go ahead and try a few of the umd's and see if the psp reads them. If it still doesn't read them then the drive is bad and needs to be replaced. if it reads them then that means dirt was on the laser and interfering with the UMD.

Umd keeps reading

the umd drive is approaching its end of the life. you might need to buy http://www.consolezombie.com/store/slim-replacement-drive-laser-assembly-p-34.html and replace your umd drive. This is what i just did to my psp-2001.

PS: The above link is only for PSP-200x (slim version of PSP)

Is this happening with every UMD? If so the laser has gone bad. Google tutorials on how to replace it or have it replaced.

On PSP changed laser and screen, still won't read umd. When in system settings and trying to change nickname won't let me type, seems as if a button is being continuously pressed.

well first of all did you make sure you got the right model umd. u cant just throw any model on there and expect it to work.

it could be also not be the laser. the laser glider might not be moving. or the spindle might not be working right.

get a new laser assemably.

has for the button issue. open up the psp and clean it really good with rubbing aclohol. if that dont work they its prolly a issue with your motherboard. u can either pay 90.00 for a new board or get a new psp.

HELP PSP WONT READ UMDS!!!!

hi i just fixed my sons it wasnt reading umd's every thing else worked so have a look were the threaded rod runs threw the laser, in the centre at the back of the laser there is a little tab with a stamped groove in it make sure the laser is up against the disk spinner when turned off push the tab against the threaded rod hopefully it has seated (you ned a good light plus i used long metal twesers to push it down, easier to see on 2000 model than the fat one but you can manage good luck)

Hi Glenpark, Eithr the UMD or UMD laser is dirty.  If it will play other UMD's the UMD is dirty.  I think Gamestop has a device that helps broken and dirty UMD's.  If it will not play any UMD, then you have a problem with your UMD laser.  You can try to clean your laser lens.  Use a Q-tip.  Dampen, not soak,  a Q-tip with a window cleaner. NOT Alcohol. Swab the lens thoroughly with the cleaner, then use the dry Q-tip to dry and polish the laser. Try hard to not leave any lint.

If you UMD still does not function, you need to send it back to SONY. Contact them at 1-800-345-7669.  If you cant get them to fix it Contact The Playstation Clnic at Repairtech@Playstationclinic.com

Hi Jleew,

You should check to see if another UMD will work first.  Also try them in another PSP.  If your sure your PSP is not reading Discs, then and only then, Clean the Laser lens carefully.  Using a strong flashlight and magnifying glass, look into the UMD drive with the UMD door open and look for debris like hair or lint, and also dirt and dust.  A black switch pokes up on the left inside the UMD drive.  Its a little black stick.  When you press down on this Black stick, your UMD disc motor should spin for  second or two.  The UMD laser lens should light up when your press this switch.  If any of this does not happen, you need to replace the UMD drive. If you need someone to do this which if you have never done it, you need some knowledge big time.

I can do this for you if you're in the USA for $55 including a New UMD drive, REturn Shipping, and 90 day warranty. Contact Repairtech@playstationclinic.com
