The DVD function works fine...
I'm old-school and still have stuff on VHS that I can hear, but can't see.
The VCR function, has sound, but no picture, it just stays on the blue screen...
Thanks in advance.
Grace0308, Many of the combo units have multiple video outputs and some, like the SVHS and RGB Component outputs, are for DVD only. Make sure that you are plugged into the proper video output. Play a tape and try them all.

it won't record dvd's its only a dvd player. only the vcr records
if the vhs movies your trying to record are movies like star wars and stuff like that it's copy protected and no worth the trouble. if it's home movies or something you recorded from tv they might work. if you get a dvd recorder/vhs player.
I have found this to be a problem with my Magnavox MWD2205. It seems to be a problem that Magnavox (actually FUNAI CORP.) can't seem to understand and fix on their machines.
1. Pick up your remote and press the video button.
2. Press the DVD button.
3. Press the Video button.
4. Press the DVD button.
That simple. This usually works but no guarantee.
Also check on the back of you player and see what cable you have connected. Often times S-Video will be plugged in and so VCR won't function. Or VCR composite video (the little yellow round port) will be plugged in and so your digital DVD won't function either. Make sure that whatever media format you choose that your ports correspond with the chosen format.
This DVD/VCR isn't compatible with the GE Universal remote. Sorry.
I would recommend contacting Magnavox (actually FUNAI CORP.) at www. magnavox.com, and seeing if they would be willing to send you a remote that was compatible with your player. There was another Magnavox player remote that also worked with Magnavox MWD2205. So it's possible that a number of remotes would work for you. Good luck! :)
No solution just the exact same problem: Does anyone know how to fix the DVD motor? I bought this from Walmart a few years ago and after about 1-2 yrs that was the 1st thing that went on it. The VHS still plays fine. I got tired of trying to "clean" it and its been packed away for at least 2 yrs. I recenly dug it out of the closet but of course its out of warranty. Is it worth repairing (its virtually brand new) or just get something else? Thanks for any suggestions in advance.
not sure but it sounds like you need to push the dvd button itself before dvd functions will work-it's to the left of the pause button. same thing happened to me and when i try that it works. remote seems to default to vcr i guess ....
Please check page-14 of user manual of Funai MWD2205 VCR/DVD Combo for recording in VCR from Camera or some thing else as external source. Here you can download User Manual for your unit, in case you dont have it. Need further help, let me know and post here. Thank you.
