Linksys WRT54GX2 constantly disconnects

I have had a WRT54GX2 router for over a year now, almost never a problem. All of a sudden in the last day or so the router would constantly shut off and back on again. I noticed that anytime a wireless device tries to connect to the router, the router resets itself, its as if you unplug it and plug it back in, all the lights flash off and it connects again and it goes off again. When it reconnects the connection lasts a few seconds, once I was able to log onto my PS3 account wirelessly during that reconnect for a few seconds, it seemed to work great until it lost the access point cause the router reset again.

I have unplugged the router multiple times. I have connected my computer directly to the line and my internet works fine, in fact the router works fine as long as no wireless device tries to connect with it. I have updated the fireware on the router. I have reset it, reconfigured it, nothing seems to work, I have no clue what to do.

I'm still running Firmware 1.01.14 and have been experiencing the same problems you've observed over the past ten days. The cycle includes regular dropouts on the wireless connection, and periodic resets of the WR54GX2. It has gone from being a very robust unit (have had it for about two years) to one which appears to be fading. Perhaps a component failure - as they're generally "on" all the time, there may be some thermal impacts affecting specific components, bringing them to a state where there behaviour becomes marginal. If the unit continues to get progressively worse, I would suggest that this then points that much more to a (or several) failing component(s).

I just upgraded from firmware version 1.01.14 to 1.01.22 and I have the same problem, the router just keeps resetting itself. I think the solution is to go back to the old firmware, but I haven't been able to find a copy yet, Once I find firmware version 1.01.14 for the WRT54GX2 router. I will let you know if this is the solution... :)

Can't connect to my linksys wrt54gx2 router and even when I do, it tells me there is an ip address conflict and disconnects me

try to connect using a LAN Cable (Wired) connection. and then try to access 192.168.0.1 you should be able to see wireless settings there.

IP address must not be the same with the IP Address of other computers in your house. look for the Range and Increase it so that the router could have a wider range of IP Address to choose from.

How to port forward

This site has great step by step guides for many different games and software.

If your application isn't on there, follow the guide for any application, but change the numbers of the port in last few steps to the port ranges you need.

Frequent disconnects

If the Xbox is connected wirelessly through a computer

ie. Bridge?

Then the problem would be with Windows XP, the Operating system scans every 2min's or so for new networks and at this point you will notice a "lag" or disconnect if it is bad enough.

XP: your going to have to turn off the Wireless service via msconfig.

Vista: Download WLAN Optimizer, easy fix there...
