AC voltage (alternating current) rapidly changes from +ve to -ve and back again. The frequency with which it changes each second is measured in Hertz (Hz for short).

The speed of an AC motor (which is what you have in the fridge's compressor) is dictated by the AC frequency.

What this means is that if you connect a motor designed for a 60Hz supply to a 50Hz supply (which is what you'll be doing) it will only run at 80% of its intended speed.

Whereas running it faster than intended might cause damage to the motor, running it slower is highly unlikely to.

The only real effect that you will see is that the fridge will take longer to initially get cold and the compressor may run for longer periods to maintain the temperature. There is a slim chance that the fridge may also struggle to achieve the coldest setting.

Changing the compressor is not a simple job and needs to be done by an expert as it involves re-gassing the system.

Personally, I would just use it as it is and see how you get on.

Hope this helps,

Wattage use

Your calculations is correct - 220 X 0.7 = 154 watts.
If your fridge only runs on 220 volts then you need solar panels that charge 12 volt lead acid batteries and then use a inverter to convert 12 volts DC to 220 volts AC.

Do your refrigerators contain any Cfc gasses, the fridge is 3 years old and we need to move it back to Australia where they are not permitted entry Thank you

if your fridge is only 3 years old the refridgerant is probably 134a which contains non ozone depleting substances or cfc gasses but it is still wise to check with austrailian enviroment to see if it complies with theire standards regaurding theyre codes

I am searching for the start up current on Fridge/Freezer WR122S. As I am planing to run the Fridge on a sola system. So I need the start up current or amps and running current & amps. As I need this...

i think that your power is 50 cycle as in the us it's 60 cycle . the current is 120 in us and i belive your's will be 220 . so the amps will be 1/2 of the value on 220 than 110 volts so 15 amps at 110 would be 1/2 that at 220 . ..this is ver general but close for what your doing . . it is easy to use a clamp on amp meter and read the currant draw and amps . and this wil change with brand / and size of compressors. and in some cases heater's and fans and defros systems the units use . good luck and i hope some of this info helps .. mm

How many amps does a Daewoo FR-330 refrigerator draw?

First off here is a copy of the service manual, for your future reference.

This is a 220 volt unit, which draws just under 15 amps.

What is their voltage, hertz? American made products are 110 volts 60 hertz/cycles. If voltage their is different, you may be able to find a converter......Just don't go plugging it in until you have all the information at hand. If I can help further, I am here....Eric Campion
