Dvd/cd drive problems

Thanks for your tip keever.

Not too sure how to take the drive out. Managed to get the side panels off but am not able to take top off without using force which I am not sure I should do. Also noted that there is a cable with P3 written on it plugged into drive, also a cabel with P4 there that does not seem to have a purpose. Looking forward to hearing from you.

thanks for your help

I think it is desktop DVD ROM. P3, P4, P5 are power connectors for HDD and DVD.

Upside down the DVDROM. you can see 4 screws there. remove the screws. Open the tray using a small hole in the front panel. You can easily remove the top panel now.

SOURCE: DVD/CD Combo drive, removal/installation.

I believe that this model has a built in drive the only way to remove it is to remove cover to the laptop. If the drive isn't working go into hardware profiles right hand click on the drive and select remove. This will remove it from windows then when you restart windows should find the drive and install the drivers. Make sure you have the software drivers before you do this.

Thanks J

SOURCE: dvd/cd drive problems

Take the drive out and carefully take off the top. The lase shines through a very small glass cover that looks like a small light bulb. Clean the very fine layer of dust off of this glass "eye" and this MIGHT fix your problem. I have seen this happen dozens, if not hundreds of times. Keever

SOURCE: how do i remove the front panel to change CD/DVD

You need to remove the side and then remove the front. The front is connected by latches which are on the top bottom and opposite side of the machine. Once you do that the drive should slide out the front of the machine. You may need to use a flat head screw driver to get the panel off.

My dell d610 laptop cd/dvd drive not working

the drive has one lens, that works for both cd's and dvd's. when it reads a dvd it uses a higher light frequency, however when reading a cd it will use a lower light frequency. the lens is most likely dirty, which is why the high frequency light aka dvd is working but not the low frequency light aka cd. a specialized lens cleaning cd may be needed. or if you want to do it manually open the drive exposing the lens, then get a q-tip and some rubbing alchohol. dip the q-tip in the rubbing alchohol and rub the lens gently in a circlular motion. then turn the q-tip over to the dry side and do the same to dry it. thank you for using fixya!

Problem with DVD/CD-Rom drive

Right click on the device name and select properties and you'll open a window with access to enable the device or open the troubleshooter.
Sometimes if you disable, reboot and enable plug & play will reinstall the device.
If your drivers have been corrupted you may be able to roll them back and then update once the drives are working.
You might want to take a trip to windows update and see if it will detect the error and offer you a fix.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take a moment to kindly rate this post....thanks!

Dvd/cd drive of acer aspire 5310 laptop not work propery

The problem when a cd or dvd player cannot detect a disc even though one is there can be two distinct problems. The most common is that the laser reader diode or led lense as some call it needs to be cleaned. Usually a good cd lense cleaner that looks like a cd works, but if it is not turning at all to start it off, it won't work. That is the second problem that if the disc does not turn at all, then it will give the same message or error. To be sure you need to take the cover off with it unplugged so that you can see the lens pointing up towards the middle of where the disc would be. Use a q-tip dipped in isopropyl alcohol to clean the lens then with the dry side of the q-tip to dry off any excess that has not evaporated. This usually fixes over 90% of those types of problems. Let me know if I can help you in any other way.

DVD drive bay

yes you should be able to play CD on the DVD reader.
Dimension 2400 have drive slide mounted on the side of the hard drive, cd drive and floppy. they are different for each device. you need the 2 side mount for the dvd. in order to mount them in the Dell.
the drive is inserted from the inside of the box toward the front. The front panel will prevent the device from pop out.
yes, 3 party DVD, CD drive will be shorter and fater that what Dell porvide, but it will work, al long as the opening is accessable.
get the HP DVD driver.

No problem, just thanks.

AWESOME! I am glad that this solution helped you out. I am interested in using the cyanoacrylate glue and accelerator spray to replace a DVD drive on one of my units too. Any tips or help on what brand of supplies and methods you used will help me a great deal. I have never worked with such materials and am rather interested in finding out more on them and how you used them. Thanks for your reply to the solution and thanks in advance to any tips and info you can share as well.

Dvd/cd drive problems

sometimes the top has to slide either forward or backward BEFORE you pull up on it----------usually slides towards you if you are in front of the machine. Sometimes also you will see some plastic clips on each side that you have to pry outward very gently AT THE SAME TIME and then pull up on the top. Look at it very thouroughly from all angles and you will discover what has to be done. Sometimes there are a couple or more of screws that have to be unscrewed, but in most cases, it's just a plastic clip and/or the top slides before pulling up on it. Hope this helps. Keever
