Question about Acer AL1716Bbd 17" LCD Monitor
Thanks for your tip keever.
Not too sure how to take the drive out. Managed to get the side panels off but am not able to take top off without using force which I am not sure I should do. Also noted that there is a cable with P3 written on it plugged into drive, also a cabel with P4 there that does not seem to have a purpose. Looking forward to hearing from you.
thanks for your help
I think it is desktop DVD ROM. P3, P4, P5 are power connectors for HDD and DVD.
Upside down the DVDROM. you can see 4 screws there. remove the screws. Open the tray using a small hole in the front panel. You can easily remove the top panel now.

I believe that this model has a built in drive the only way to remove it is to remove cover to the laptop. If the drive isn't working go into hardware profiles right hand click on the drive and select remove. This will remove it from windows then when you restart windows should find the drive and install the drivers. Make sure you have the software drivers before you do this.

SOURCE: dvd/cd drive problems
Take the drive out and carefully take off the top. The lase shines through a very small glass cover that looks like a small light bulb. Clean the very fine layer of dust off of this glass "eye" and this MIGHT fix your problem. I have seen this happen dozens, if not hundreds of times. Keever

You need to remove the side and then remove the front. The front is connected by latches which are on the top bottom and opposite side of the machine. Once you do that the drive should slide out the front of the machine. You may need to use a flat head screw driver to get the panel off.
