Question about Dirt Devil Vacuums

Dirt Devil 085845 . Sucks the rug up

085845 dirt devil. says on vaccum that it is automatic height adjust. This baby sits so tight to the floor that it will pull a 3 foot long rubber back rug right up the vaccum and stall the motor. Called Dirt Devil and they told me to lean handel back 45 degrees and let motor run until I heard a motor pitch change and it was set. My motor dont change pitch with handel held at any degree angle even after a minute of holding. Called them back and they said that not all models do that and I need to take to authorized repair. I have had it all apart and back together and I dont see anything that could lower the wheels. There is a plastic cam that forces the wheels down when sweeper handel is put into the upright position for storage or to use the hose attachment. But otherwise when the handel is down those wheeles just flop down and are loose with nothing to power them down or hold them down. Thanks for any help. Bud

Check the brush roll, are the bristles worn down? Check the belt also, if it is stretched, then it won't drive the brush roll like it should.

If it is only 2 months old, then it is under warranty, take it in for warranty repair. There may be a circuit breaker on it, usually on the back at the bottom, it there is, push it to see if it has tripped.

SOURCE: Dirt Devil vacuum sucks... figuratively

Well, I guess your visitors have come and gone, but the vacuum remains the same. It sounds like you have a broken or worn belt. The belt should be changed once a year (approx) and can break if something is picked up that jams the brush. It is also possible that you have something obstructing the vacuum inlet at the brush housing.
If the belt is worn, it can still look o.k., but won't have the tension to turn the roller when it engages the carpet. I suspect the belt is your trouble.

Hi there! If your vacuum is suddenly hard to push your roller lifter assembly, which controls the automatic height adjustment, may be damaged or broken. Check your roller lifter assembly located underneath your unit for damages. Also, your brushes help to maneuver through carpet, check that your brushes are still spinning. If not, replace the belt on your vacuum. I have included a link where you may visit to purchase a replacement belt for your vacuum. Hope this helps!

Dirt devil platinum force no longer pushes easily

Hi there! If your vacuum is suddenly hard to push this could be an indication that your belt that controls your brushes has broken. The brush roll helps to maneuver through carpet. Check that the brushes are still spinning. If the brushes are not spinning you will need to take the vacuum in to a Dirt Devil authorized service center to have the belt replaced.

There are also two small wheels underneath the vacuum that controls the automatic height adjustment. Inspect the height adjustment cam, shaft and wheels for damages.

Below is a link where you may go to locate the nearest service center to you. Hope this was helpful! If you require further assistance feel free to reach out to us here on Fixya, Facebook.com/dirtdevil or Twitter @DirtDevil.
