i have a 96 model hitachi 36" and the picture has shrunk to the middle side ways. i use to be able to slightly hit the side of the tv and the picture would then return to its original size.

hitting cannot solve this problem.the horizontal deflection circuit is malfunctioning. you need to check the horizontal output, horizontal drive and the horizontal output transformer for sure

HI: Well that is a good indication you have a intermittent connection in the circuit board. Its time to take it to a repair shop. He will re-solder the poor connections. You should not need parts. Good Luck.
