You have not listed the model of printer, however in most standard inkjet printers, once you open the lid of the printer, the print head carriage automatically moves into view and you can just pull out the color that needs to be replaced and put the new cartridge. As always, read the directions that come with the new ink cartridge, incase there is any packing material that needs to be removed from the new cartridge before installation.
just press the ink button (with the drop symbol) once and the carriage will move to change ink position, you can now change the cartridge. when your done, just press the ink button once again.
It works with both 16 and 17 for Black and 26 and 27 for Color.
Go to the Panel from Lexmark X1100 series- Series Solution Center and select the new type of cartridges. Allign the cartridges, make an excel test with 4 colors(cyan, magenta, yellow, black) and it should work

Try changing printing preferences/properties. Click on option for color, then click on box for "black ink only" or similar. Try now. If you still cannot print after changing preferences/properties, you will need to replace color ink cartridge due to manufacturer's built-in software that prevents printing when ink is low. Great for the ink companies!!!
If you need to replace an ink cartridge in your printer, please follow the
instructions below:
To confirm which ink cartridge requires replacement,
please use the printer's control panel (there is a black ink out indicator, as
well as a color ink out indicator ), or the Status Monitor in your computer.
Red light flashing - Low ink Red light solid - Out of ink
1.
Open the printer cover and press the INK (Cleaning) button for 3 seconds. The
print head moves to the center and the lights flash. 2. Lift up the ink
cartridge clamp. The cartridge rises up from its holder. 3. Remove the
cartridge and dispose of it carefully. If ink gets on your hands, wash them with
soap and water. If ink gets in your eyes, flush them immediately with water.
4. Unpack the new ink cartridge and remove the yellow tape. You must remove
the yellow tape from the top of the cartridge. Do not remove the clear seal
underneath the cartridge. Do not touch the green circuit board on the back of
the cartridge, or you may inhibit normal operation and printing. 5. Tilt the
new cartridge toward you slightly as you insert it. Lower the cartridge so that
the tabs rest on the hooks. Do not place the cartridge tabs under the hooks.
6. Press down firmly on the ink cartridge clamp until it snaps in place.
7. If you need to replace the other ink cartridge, repeat steps 2 through 6
before continuing with step 8 (to move printhead over to color (if black was
replaced first) press the cleaning button once). 8. Press the INK (Cleaning)
button once, and close the printer cover. The printer begins charging the ink
delivery system. 9. Wait until ink charging is finished (the power light
stops flashing and the red error light goes out).
The Epson CX9400F printer seems to require replacement of all the color ink cartridges, even if only the Black is empty.
I print almost exclusively in Black, but with my first change of Black, I was forced to change all the color. At the time I thought Epson did not provide completely filled color ink cartridges.
Just yesterday, I replaced Black and the printer complained it did not recognize the rest of color cartridges. So I replaced all the other color ink cartridges and now it works fine.
You might want to check out www.clickinks.com for cheaper, mail order alternatives which are Epson ink compatible, if you are not in a hurry.
when you change all new cartridges (make sure all cartridge ok, and the cartridge pins connection ok) still red color lost, it is the trouble at print head ink chanel some of that is too dry for longer time less using , most CANON printer head is separated from the ink cartridge, two way you may try:
1) take out the ink cartridge, drop down a little the special cleaner (best clean tools buy from dealer), to the head ink chanel hole, then set back the ink cartridge and waiting minutes
2) try put the print head bottom surface touch a little cleaner or water 1-2 hrs, if you can take out the print head unit. still not fixed for some case that should change the print head unit.
Printer is fairly new....have changed the inks once.....lost the
book, I guess,,,,,anyway, I THOUGHT I changed the black also,
but I have no black ink. I got a new cartridge, but don't know
how to install it......menu?? instructions? feel ignorant???
HELP! Thank you. Joyce
