First of all, connecting them in tandem like this will activate a security feature built in to the dvd recorder. Any copywritten dvd has a security code embedded in it that will tell the recorder not to record.

HOW DO I PLAY A DVD USING Hitachi Flat Panel Television 32HDL51 (ITS CONNECTED THROUGH HDMI CABLE)

Page 18 of the manual, you shouldn't need to do steps 2 or 3.

CONNECTING A COMPONENT SOURCE WITH HDMI or DVI CAPABILITY TO INPUT 1 or INPUT 2
1.Connect the HDMI or DVI to HDMI connection cable from the output of the HDTV set top box or DVD player to the HDMI input as shown on the AVC Center below.
2.With DVI output, connect the cable from the AUDIO OUT R of the HDTV set top box or DVD player to the INPUT (AUDIO/R) jack.
3.With DVI output, connect the cable from the AUDIO OUT L of the HDTV set top box or DVD player to the INPUT (AUDIO/L) jack.
4.Press the INPUTS button, then select INPUTS 1 or 2 to view the program from the HDTV set top box or DVD player. The VIDEO OSD label disappears automatically after approximately four seconds.
5.Select ANT A or B from the INPUTS menu to return to the previous channel.
NOTES:1. Completely insert the connection cord plugs when connecting to rear panel jacks. The picture and sound that is played back will be abnormal if the connection is loose.
2. The HDMI input on INPUT 1 or 2 contains the copy protection system called High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP). HDCP is a cryptographic system that encrypts video signals when using HDMI connections to prevent ******* copying of video contents.
3.HDMI is not a "NETWORK" technology. It establishes a one-way point-to-point connection for delivery of uncompressed video to a display.
4.The connected digital output device controls the HDMI interface so proper set-up of device user settings determines final video appearance.

How do I copy(to DVD) my SVHS tapes using my JVC MV-40

It all depends on what kind of connections you are using. In most cases you set the dvd recorder to input 1. Then use the yellow, red & black or white out puts from the vhs player to hook up to the number 1 input on the dvd recorder. hit play on the vhs & record on the dvd recorder at the same time. Do not forget to put a blank dvd in the dvd recorder? also for the best copy set your dvd recorder to XP for a 1 hour recording for a 1 hour or longer recording set the dvd recorder speed to SP. You should have the dvd recorder hooked up to a Tv so you can monitor the recording progress. This should work out as long as the recording you are copying is not copy protected. Good luck.

Sound on my emerson dvd player

The set -up is listed on page (7) of your owners manual. When asking a question like this it is important to say what type of connection you are trying to make. It is also important to say what type of cables you intend on using for the connection. If you do not have a copy of the owners manual, you can find a copy on the provided web link. It will show you with a diagram all of the possible way to connect the dvd player to the television. If you are still having a problem with the connections you can call the emerson customer support at this telephone number. 1-800-256-2487. I hope this information helps you with your problem. http://tv.manualsonline.com/manuals/mfg/emerson/ewd2204_1.html
