Kenmore freezer won't reach freezing temperature

When the compressor gets worn it loses it's ability to cool. 18 years is a long time for a fridge. The last fridge that did this to me, I paid the appliance guy $20 to tell me it was broke (I knew that part). Then he told me it wasn't worth the money to repair it and to buy a new one. Time for a new fridge.

Westinghouse freestyle fridge &freezer work but warm after being turned off fo 90 days

What happens in that 72 hours is the evaporator coil get's so much frost built up on it that the fan in the evap. freezer fan has no where to circulate the cold air (where the cold is produced). Basically you have a restriction between freez/fridg. sections you have defrost problem> It is one of three things d heater,d t stat, or your d timer.I need the model # to tell you what my sugestions would be and where to start.

We have a Kenmore Elite Freezer Model #253.29082994. We had the freezer plugged in and it was working fine. We unplugged it and moved it and now when we plug it in it won't start. Is there some kind of...

You refrigerator was made by Frigidaire Adaptive Defrost Controls Frigidaire Refrigerator Trouble Shooting and Diagnosing
On the initial plugin, or when power is restored to the fridge after a power outage:
If terminating thermostat is open, the fridge enters a compressor (cooling) cycle.
If the terminating thermostat is closed, the first defrost cycle occurs 1 hour
after initial plug-in.
Maximum defrost cycle time is 24 minutes.
Minimum time between defrost cycles is 6 hours. (compressor runtime)
Maximum normal clock time between defrost cycles is 12 hours.
Maximum time between defrost cycles (in "vacation" mode) is 72 hours.
Vacation mode is not entered unless the door has not been opened in at least 24 hours.
Note that the ADC will only enter the defrost mode if the terminating thermostat is closed. If the terminating thermostat is open when defrost is initiated, the ADC board will wait for six minutes and then return to the cooling mode.
ASSUMING that the fridge has been on and running,
and the terminating thermostat is closed,
defrost is initiated by pressing the door (light) switch
at least five times within six seconds.
The defrost heater should start heating up within 8 seconds.
If the above procedure caused the heater to heat up, the ADC board is probably bad; replace it.
If the defrost heater does not heat up, test the defrost heater, terminating thermostat and cold control for continuity as follows:
Unplug the fridge from the wall. Unplug the ADC board from its connector.
Test the connector for continuity between the following leads:
Defrost Heater = DEF TERM (blue) to DEF OUT (brown).
Terminating Thermostat = DEF TERM (blue) to NEUTRAL (lt blue).
Cold Control = COLD CONTROL (orange) to L1 (black).
Replace the defective component.

Stopped cooling

Since you didn't provide a make / model for the fridge, a generic checklist is provided below. The cause may be no power at outlet, thermostat position, and then deeper - components within the fridge. You'll likely need a vacuum cleaner, hand tools, a schematic and some test equipment to check these devices, due to their location behind panels in the freezer or in the toe space area.

1) Check circuit breaker o fuse in electric panel.
2) Check for power at outlet.
3) Vacuum condenser coil behind / under fridge.
4) Check that thermostat was not turned up or set to "off".
5) Check for frost build up on evaporator coil and that fan is operating (if not repair / replace) in / behind freezer compartment - if clogged with ice, check:
6) Check for operational defrost timer & contacts.
7) Check for functional defrost terminator on evaporator coil.
8) Check defrost coil continuity - replace if open.

You have a defrost problem. 3 parts: Timer (or "adaptive defrost control"), defrost heater and def. termination thermostat.Find the timer, it shoud be nehind the bottom front grille to the right on Amana (if you see a blck box under there with a sticker on it, it's the ADC model) turn the timer CW until it clicks. Take the back off the bottom of the freezer and listen. After 5-10 minutes if you hear the sound of the sound of water hitting a hot grill. If you hear this the heater and thermo are working and the problem is the timer/ADC. No hiss? Unplug fridge. Check thermo and heater for continuity. Replace the one that's open. If the heater's open, replace the thermo too: Maybe it didn't open soon emouhg and caused heater failure.
