Clothes dryer makes a ''thumping'' sound

Dryer works fine, does what it is supposed to. But the thumping has me worried something's gonna give.It has nothing to do with the load – no matter what's in the machine the sound is still there.

Hi,
The thumping is probably the belt going bad... a small chunk comes out of the belt but it does not actually tear. When the part of the belt missing the chunk goes around the motor pulley it makes a thump....
Get a new belt and change it before it breaks completely...

One of your rollers has a flat spot in it or something stuck to it. Every time it rolls round to that spot the drum jumps over the little speed bump in the road. The wheel needs to be replaced.

I have a thumping sound in my dryer we put in new belt and wheels what can it be?

what's the brand name and model number?when it spins if you hear a thump thump as it spins that could just be the drum where the rollers hit it,i've heard that alot of times in dryers,i wouldn't worry about it,if it heats and spins and it doesn't sound like metal on metal or not making a real loud noise it's most likely just the drum, could be a little out of round and when the rollers ride on it you hear thump thump then when it spins you hear it again it will be fine, look at the drum, you might see some black stuff on it where the rollers ride on it,you can try cleaning it up it might help but i wouldn't worry about it.

Thumping noise

Sounds like the tub is unbalanced from either a bearing/pulley suspension problem or the unit has broken something off in between the tub and outer portion of the unit before you get to the walled panels, and you are hearing a rubbing and thumping noise. This is not a typical DIY job since the entire back panel of the unit needs to be pulled off and diagnosed.

Dryer takes too long to dry clothes. Heating element is working because clothes are hot but it takes almost 2 dry cycles to dry clothes.

It sounds like you're lacking air flow. I'm sure you're cleaning the lint trap / filter - but have you clean the VENT HOSE / PIPE?

The 4 in vent hose is supposed to be cleaned annually. If you have the flexible vinyl hose, replace it with either steel, aluminum or flexible aluminum tubing instead. Once you've removed the vinyl hose, it will collect a lot less dust and can be cleaned without worry of puncture.

A typical dryer vent brush.

Make sure there's no obstruction to the flap outside, too. Once cleaned the dryer operation should be restored to new again.

I hope this helps & good luck! Please rate my reply - thank you.

The dryer is making a thump/thud noise as the drum turns. The dryer works fine but the noise sounds like something hitting everytime the drum goes around. Could this be the belt going out?

Thumping/rubbing sound in drum

The belt tensioner roller has a flat spot caused by a worn bearing that catches and stops whilet the drum is turning. This causes the flat spot and the noise its making. You can purchase a new roller by itself and do change the belt the same time too

Help! black marks on white clothes w/maytag dryer

usually when this happens it's from the felt seals that are on the drum, the clothes are passing through the seal and hitting the rollers,as for other problems if the timer is bad the seals and you have a noise problem, you might just want to get a new dryer, nobody can help you without the model number and if you're gonna try to fix this you'll have to send alot more info than what you sent

Clothes get stuck between dryer and barrel

If your clothes get stuck, marked or torn in your dryer, check these:

Rollers
Rear seal
Front glides
Front seal
Rollers Your dryer may use rollers, or wheels, to support the rear of the clothes drum. When these are worn out, they may cause the clothes drum to drop down slightly, which can pinch the clothes between the top of the clothes drum and the rear of the dryer interior. When the rollers wear out, you need to replace the whole set.

Rear seal Your dryer may have a felt-like seal at the rear of the drum. If this seal is worn, torn, or missing, clothes can get caught and torn in the space between the clothes drum and the rear of the dryer interior. When the rear seal wears out, you need to replace it.

Front glides Your dryer probably uses nylon or plastic glides at the front of the clothes drum for support. When these are worn out, they may cause the clothes drum to drop down slightly, which can pinch the clothes between the top of the clothes drum and the front of the dryer interior. When the glides wear out, you need to replace them as a set.

Front seal Many dryers have a felt-like seal at the front of the drum. If this seal is worn, torn, or missing, the clothes in the dryer may get caught and torn in the space between the clothes drum and the front of the dryer interior. When the seal wears out, you need to replace it.

Dryer is making loud thumping noise.

Take off the back panel of the dryer and look at the motor and belt turning the drum. There may be something caught on the drum and is pinned in place causing the noise. The motor could be loose on the platform and needs to be tightened. It is probably something physical and seen causing the noise.
