Question about PC Desktops

1 Answer

I am so frustrated. I have a brand new computer and running on Windows Vista. It is not recognizing the Lexmark 1270 printer. I've tried everything. When I hook the printer up to my other computer which is on Windows XP, it runs fine. ??

yup, I tried downloading the new drivers, but alas, still no connection. Everything else with Vista (finally) seems to be working fine, except the darn printer connection. I've given the printer to my kids who have Windows XP. Sadly I'll have to live without a printer, it seems.

Had a similiar issue with Vista not playing nice with my Dell all in one.
Had to go to the dell site and find a driver for this unit that will work with Vista, but first they will show a list of compatible printers and non-compatible so I would look for that first.
Good luck.

Go to the Lexmark site. More than likely if the unit is more than a few years old you will not find Vista drivers. Most manuf. have their hands full creating Vista drivers for current products and are making no effort to provide for older equipment. Be prepared to throw it away. It is a problem for many varient Operating Systems: XP64-bit, Linux, etc.

Trying to install a lexmark x63 to my computer

Here's a link to Lexmark's site where you can download the printer drivers:

http://downloads.lexmark.com/perl/downloads/downloads.cgi?ccs=229:1:0:93:0:0

If your computer is running Windows Vista this printer may not work. At least Lexmark doesn't offer drivers for Vista. This either means it's not compatible, or that Vista doesn't need any special driver software.

This usually happen with an old printer and new computer with new OS.
You can try downloading your new driver for Vista at Lexmark website here:

http://www.lexmark.com/lexmark/sequentialem/home/0,6959,204816596_652569478_0_en,00.html

If doesn't work, ask to customer service for assistance

But at this point:

1) is better to get a new printer compatible with Vista

or

2) Downgrade your OS to one compatible with your printer.

Check with Lexmark at their website at www.lexmark.com - If no drivers available for your windows vista, ask to customer service how you can resolve that issue.

Almost certainly you need to update your driver although I thought Vista already had this driver. Anyway try downloading Vista Printer driver from link and reinstalling your printer.

If successful, would appreciate feedback because this lets other people know if the solution was effective or not.

I have a Lexmark X75 all-in-one which I would like to keep but when I try to install it on my new printer I get an error message saying that it is not supported by VISTA. Help! I have looked for new driver...

Sorry to be the bringer of bad news but Lexmark have decided they want everyone to buy new printers to use with Vista: they are not going to write vista compatible ones.

If you phone Lexmark and make a lot of noise about it some people have found they are offered discounts on new printers, but there is no guarantee you will be one of them. Good luck.

I have a Lexmark X63 printer, but it is not listed as one of the printers that is compatible with my Acer computer.

Does the computer have Windows Vista on it?

If so, that is correct. Lexmark does not have a Vista driver for the X63.

However, many people with Lexmarks (and other non-Vista supported models) have had success using Windows 2000 drivers on computers with Vista installed.

If you have Windows XP installed, or if you have Vista and want to try the Windows 2000 driver, they can both be downloaded here, directly from Lexmark:

http://downloads.lexmark.com/cgi-perl/downloads.cgi?lxkprod=Lexmark+X63

Be sure to UNPLUG the printer from the PC before installing the software. ONLY plug it in once the on-screen instructions tell you to do so.
