Question about Zenith E44W46LCD 44" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

1 Answer

The HD capabilities seem to have disappeared?

Our zenith 44 inch lcd HDTV stopped picking up hd channels all the sudden. we've tried everything except replacing the box which of course requires comcast to come out and charge us if it's not their problem. at the same time the HD "disappeared", the volume started acting up. there's a really loud CRACK and then the volume drops on its own. sometimes if you turn off the tv and turn it back on, it resets, other times it won't. but the HD we can't figure out. when we tune into an HD channel, the picture is in a perfect black square in the middle of the screen instead of filling up the whole thing. is it just trashed at this point? we've had it probably 4 years.

thank you so much for the information. we did discover that we had the t.v. set to the wrong "component" setting (i know, ******) and miraculously enough, that seems to have stopped the popping and lowering the volume. i have no idea why why the two would be related. i will definitely look into the recalls though. thanks!

No idea on your exact problem yet but LG the manufacture of this unit had a recall on this model for several issues and they are paying for out of warranty repairs for certain problems you may want to call them and see if you can get some help from the manufacture.

Make sure you have the menu set on digital channels not cable. Set antenna to air to pickup digital hd channels.

If these tv is digital why I need to use a converter box to see the channels

Because it does not have a ATSC nor a Quam tuner in it. Just a regular tuner. As it says HDTV ready. This meant back when you bought it that it will receive HD when a hd cable box is used and connected to the DVI or the Component input in the back. This was a low end set at the time. It will still receive regular cable without a box.

NO HDTV

There are many variables here that could cause the problem. I can receive a few local HD channels ( within about 60 miles ) on my 57H94. I am not aware of any "HD specific" settings- it's all part of the receiving circuits in the TV. The first thing I would look at is to be sure you have a secure antenna connection. Then be sure you have selected the correct antenna input on the TV (there are two). HD channels, as an example will show up as 10-1, 10-2, etc. Most TVs have different sensitivity thresholds, regardless of size. Usually digital signals, including HD, are either there or not. In most cases if a TV picks up a decent analogue signal, a digital set should receive the digital signal, including available HD channels, as well. If you are going to use an antenna, rather than cable or satellite, try to get the best antenna you can afford, that will meet your physical requirements ( indoor / outdoor,etc.). Keep in mind that not all digital TV signal are HD. All of our local stations in this area transmit a digital signal, but true HD broadcasts remain variable. I hope this has helped in some way-Good Luck!

I change the screen to zoom and aspect control will not change at all?

If you're viewing an "HD" channel, the aspect ratio will not change.
Try switching to a non "HD" channel or DVD and try again.

HD ready?

The TV is just HD ready (doesn't have the HD tuner built-in), you need a separate HD tuner connected to your TV.
