Hello Srinin,
You didn't post that you tried the "Del" key, so I'll mention that to try on Boot. Otherwise you should see on your screen during P.O.S.T the proper key/key combo to enter Setup after the memory check (I believe, if it's even enabled). You may have to note the key/key combo on one boot and then try it on the next boot as you only have a second or two to enter the key/key combo.
I hope this helps you, and Good luck.

It wont boot, goes to black screen with whit blinking dash

Yes, this sounds like the traditional black screen issue, but it's different! This machine is a Dell Dimension 3000 with XP. System won't boot. After Blue Dell BIOS splash screen with F2 & F12 options, it just goes black. There will ultimately be a white cursor in the upper left hand corner. I can edit BIOS with F2, I can get in to the boot menu with F12, but I can't do anything after that. I can even get in to the Safe Mode menu (F8), but it never boots.

How do i fine the model of my dell latitude laptop

If it's not on the bottom, you can see the model number in the BIOS. (Usually pressing f8, f12 or Del will get you into the BIOS)
It's also usually listed on the POST screen with the Dell logo.

Shut the system down by holding the power button for 5 seconds or more. Turn the system back on, as soon as the blue dell logo goes away tap f8 on the keyboard. This should bring you to a menu from which you can select "safe mode". See if it starts in safe mode. If so, troubleshoot further from there. If not press f12 on the dell logo and choose diagnostics. Run a quick scan, see if any errors are returned for the hard drive.

During the POST, press F2 and look through the BIOS tabs until you find the page that lists the installed drives. Usually this is the 1st or second page.

You should have 2 drives installed. Your HDD and an Optical.

If both show up, then the problem is likely unrelated to the ATA Controller (which is part of the Motherboard).

The Dell Recovery CD can be requested from Dell, or you can enter your service tag number on their site to see if it's available as a download.

Dell Latitude D600 won't go past the Dell startup screen

Tap the f7 or f8 key, when you turn it on, it should go into safe mode, Go into start programs, accesories, tools, and restore, select restore, select a date closest to today and let it go through the restore pocess, if it suceeds and starts up, rub a good virus program right away, it sounds like you picked up a virus or trojen, just be patient and it shoul be ok, if it won't go into safe mode, let me know, that will require more work. And before you do anything, unplug, remove the battery for a few minutes and replace, try it and if it still won't run, do the above, thanks ,GYM
