I Also seem to be having this problem with my dv6000 running Windows XP Media Center Edition. It was only until about a week ago that this problem surfaced. The 3.5mm headphone jack still works, but the internal speakers don't. Please help.

I just started to have this same problem. First my power button stopped working and then the internal seakers stopped. I tried the HP fixes on their HELP/Support site but none worked. Sounds like I have the same internal wire break between motherboard, power and speakers.

I have a dv6120us HP pavillion notebook. now the notebook is out of warranty. Few days ago the speakers (Altec Lansing) stopped working. The head phone jack is still working. Then the power-on button was having a problem. I need to press the button continuously for few seconds to power on the notebook. After fewdays i am not able to swith on the laptop.

Seems like the same problem you guys had on your machines. please suggest me how you got it rectified.

What a wonderful quality department HP must have when they can ignore the same problem reoccurring so many times. The ribbon cable is the problem and should never go wrong as long as the case is not opened. How about it HP? Some free repairs are due here.

I just got off a chat session with HP about this same problem on my DV6000. They had me install updated drivers but that didn't help. Now they want me to do a complete restore. Sounds like a big headache and a waste of time. Any simple solution for a DIY?

Hey guys unfortunately this is not a software issue and you have to replace internal speaker.if you can use headset And you have no problem with sound that's means your sound card is fine dont waste your time by updating... and the only thing you can do is buying new internal speaker for you Computer .Dv6000 speakers are cheap like 12 to 14 $ and it's so easy to replace ,. Just Open the battery you will find 3 silver screw open it and take cover out and replace with the new one as simple as that !

If your laptop is still under warranty then this is something they have to repair for you. It sounds like a hardware error, not sure about the actual fault but two speakers burnt is weird. (Especially if you keep the volume near 60-70% of the max volume)

Still if the laptop is out of warranty then dissasemblying is required. The information required are all give to the Service manual of th DV6000 provided from HP itself along with the part list and coding of the new set of speakers you need.

The process is not hard actually for this model. It can be done fairly easy. (in other laptop a complete disassembly is required which is very tough task)

The manual you will need is the one below. (Simply left click)

    http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01...

At page 146 you will see how the speakers are removed. Also follow the instruction on the quoted previous sections.

The part number of the speakers is 431447-001 and it is mentioned at the same page.

The part costs around 5$ used from Ebay :) If you dont believe me check it out yourself :)

Many regards and I hope you can get your precious laptop working again as a charm

If you cannot power the laptop on, try pressing some of the "play","pause","volume up", etc buttons while you press power on.
My dv6000's speakers are failing, too, and I have the same issue with the power button. I'm sure this is a hardware failure ( I have dual boot Debian GNU/Linux / Windows XP and there is no sound on both systems, but with earphones.

Thanks for the help John Kenn, but that solution did not work.
It turns out that the tiny ribbon cable attaching the motherboard to the speakers, power button, buit-in-mic was broken. This procedure was quite complex and I had to ask a friend a.k.a "electrical guru" for help. I guess that you could ask hp to repair it, however my laptop was out of warranty. I hope this helped.

Sometimes the speaker internally disables itself when another audio device is connected (i.e. headphones or external speakers) and need to be reenabled from Control Panel. Try this.

No sound

If speakers are built into the monitor, then there should be an audio cable that connects from the monitor to the green speaker out jack on the back of the computer.

If speakers are NOT built into the monitor, then buy a set of speakers from a store.

Hp Pavillion a1140n suddenly has very low sound...

chances are this is a windows sound setting. in the system tray (bottom right by the clock) right click the speaker icon and select 'Open Volume Control' you will see a series of sliders. Check and make sure none are set low. about 3/4 up for each should be fine.

Other things to check:
Speaker Cables, Speaker Volume, power to speakers.

Laptop speakers problem

There are 2 volume control buttons on the laptop. 1 turns it up 1 turns it down. Try turning the volume up. It may be up high enough for you to hear with headphones but now loud enough to be heard through the speakers.

I have a crappy HP pavillion dv6000 laptop, after working fine on shutdown last night, i turned on this morning and it would not boot up. the lights on the volume bar lit up, flashed, and went off...thats...

It's acting like the juice is drained in the battery. Are you sure it's charged? Do you have a spare battery you can swap out?

Some of them come with two. I actually have the same series laptop (a Pavilion dv6258se, 6000 series), and they can be a little flaky.

I also had an issue where my HP power cable (that connects the laptop to the wall outlet) was faulty, and needed to be replaced, because it stopped charging the battery. I ended up purchasing a generic replacement power cable on eBay.
