Hello All! My stepsons computer went black on me! I will give you all the info I can at this piont. Its a Dell with windows xp. I clicked on ie to open web page and the page opened then immediately shut down (tried 3 times) I rebooted, here is where the problem got worse. It boots up normally, runs all the screens until it gets to the password login screen then it just stays black! Cant login, cant see the desktop or icons, cant see anything but black! The cursor stays active, you can move the cursor around the screen but nothing happens! I tried to reboot in safe mode and still nothing! I am at a loss because I cant see anything at all but the cursor.
    HELP! :)

    Thank you

This is the second time it's happened to me with my Acer Aspire notebook. Last time I did a full re-install of windows. Worked OK for about a month...
Note: safe mode is OK. Don't think it's user profiles, because it goes black before you have a chance to log in. I suspect the video settings for the log in page is messed up. Of course, safe mode is running with 800 x 600 x 16 bit.
I don't know where the log in video properties are established.

Firefox 3.03 had some internal error when it last worked. Would not re-run, so I restarted the computer. Then the blackness. In safe mode I tried to uninstall Firefox, but the uninstaller has a corrupt file. May be a correlation here... Anybody had a problem with Firefox 3.03?

Boot in safe mode and log on to ur system with administrator account. Might be ur user profile is corrupted. Locate and delete the profile after taking backup of your Documents and Desktop. Restart the sytem and logon with the same user name and password and it will create a new profile again.
