Question about Microsoft Xbox 360 Console

1 Answer

Hey there Xbox 360 Question

I have a question for you.

I am trying to stream .mkv 720p movies from my windows xp pc using tversity transcode program. I have tried codec installation/unistallations for the last 5 days. I finally got the videos to stream however it buffers every 2 minutes, even with the transcode quality set to low.

My question is do you think that my computer is just not fast enough to stream mkvs like that. By the way, i can play the mkv files just fine with no buffering on my local pc, it just has a hell of a time streaming it over a wired 100mb connection using 2 switches. My comp setup is as follows:

pentium 4 ht 3.2ghz
nvidia 7800 gt OC
1 gb ddr dual channel (2x512mb)
1tb hard drive space (2x500gb 1x100gb)

by the way, are you a member of xbox-scene? Ive been on that site for 2 years now. I am a huge fan of softmodding xbox 1's with xbmc. Great little console.

    Thanks Bud.

Yea, I will continue my search for HD gold. Not really willing to buy a Blu-ray player yet.

I like the features of the hardwire mods. Way better then the softmod. See ya round.

Hey Buddy,
i,m not 100% sure about streaming mkvs, i,d imagine the 360 can,t keep up with the data input/output.
yet ironically they,ll deal with HD output fine.
I,d say it,s a possible buffer under-run, the datas not flowing in and out quick enough or bottle-necking somewhere.
I,ve been repairing the Best machine of all Time.
X-Box 1 what a babe, will play great games, and also the old retro classics.
i do a little softmodding, and have 1 or 2 collectables like a kasumi-chan limited edition. my own is a crystal with X3 80 gig seagate barracuda,, blue led top-jewel and Front panel, 80 strand IDE Ribbon. All my own work.
I prefer The Hardwired mods myself, but softmoddings cool, well until someone unlocks the Hard-Drive And Reboots to A frag.
Then it,s time for the ultimate repair tool. Xenium Ice Solderless.
Keep em posted Buddy.

Xbox 360 has limited codecs, if you want to utilize more file formats download the media pack on xbox live. but for your streaming pleasure try out TVersity or PS3 Media Server it also supports xbox. just install it on your PC then stream the videos to your xbox.

I wanna use a phone line to get the internet and the music off my laptop to connect to my xbox 360...?

Phone line? As in dial up? No dice. You need, atleast, a DSL connection or faster to get Xbox live.

You can use a UPnP media server, such as TVersity to stream music from your laptop to the 360. What's cool about TVersity is that even though the music you want to play is an unsupported format for your Xbox, it will automatically transcode (make it into something the Xbox 360 can play).

If you have a broadband connection (e.g. DSL, Cable, Sat, etc.) you can have Tversity stream your favorite internet radio stream to your Xbox 360.

Download the latest Windows Media Player, Tversity or These other media servers, install, configure (TVersity is fairly easy to setup), and go look for the Tversity folder in your Music section in the NXE menu.

I wrote a how-to on setting up TVersity here if you need help setting it up.

Hope this helps,
Bill

I can´t play Windows Movie Films on my X-Box 360?!?! Can I Download a codec for this???I have some clips in Windows Media type on a CD. but my X-Box Can´t play that!!! Why???

Most likely there is not a codec available. If your Xbox is connected to the internet it will download the codecs if it can when you try to play the file. If not you can do what I did and download TVersity at www.tversity.com. This will stream movies from your computer to your laptop if they are on the same network, I use it to watch movies I have on my computer on my tv via my xbox. Anything your computer can play your xbox can play.

Xbox 360 console..

Windows media center is a little complicatd to use. The biggest problem with it is you have to have your movies rated. If you want a fast and simple way to connect the two is use a program called tversity. http://www.tversity.com/

It is free and extremely easy to use. Once you install it, you will need to show it which folders to share. Then go to your xbox dashboard and go to My xbox, the scroll right to video library. Once there you should see tversity on (your computer name)

Choose this option and you will then be able to play all your media on your xbox including all your songs and movies.

Leave the file on your PC and use TVersity to index and Transcode ALL your videos to your XBOX360 on the fly. No conversion needed. I have copied all my sons DVDs to my PC (he kept messing em up) now I store the originals as backups and play the movies from his xbox with TVersity
