I have a 50" plasma tv. I'm not having any real problem, but was wondering if there were settings that someone has tweaked to make it look the best it can? Any advice appreciated. Jimmy

Yes, I'm seeking customer control settings. It seems to me that there is someone out there who has played around with settings to make the picture look better than from factory. Thanks, Jimmy

In case I forgot to mention, I is a 50" SAMSUNG 1080p plasma

  • zorbin Mar 07, 2008

I'm looking for any manual settings, or is it as perfect as it can be from the factory?

  • zorbin Mar 08, 2008

Thanks. I have that. But remember, I'm looking for someone who has 'fiddled' with the settings and made the picture even better than factory settings. I don't even know if it is possible. Just checking.

If you are using your Plasma TV strictly as a TV (and not as a computer monitor),
you can not change the TV's
    resolution. You can, however, change
    the screen size.

To change the screen size, press the P.Size button on your remote. Each time your
press the P.Size button, the screen size changes.

Important: The screens sizes you can access
depend upon the input source you have selected. For example, if you have selected
a DVI or HDMI source, you will only be able to access the16:9 and 4:3 screen
sizes. For more information, see your user's manual.

If you are using your Plasma TV as a computer monitor, you can use the Windows Display
Properties dialog to change the resolution of the image on the screen. For information
about the resolutions you can use, see your user's manual. Look for a section
titled Connecting A PC. If you don't have your user's manual on hand,
to view the manual on line.

The only settings are the customer control settings? The other settings with the registers are not available to the customer, only a technician.

Bought a Wii and using the standard cables it played great on a new 50' Panasonic Plasma as well as on our 2 year old 32' VIZIO LCD. Just upgraded to a 46' Sony LCD (W series) and the Wii looks terrible...

The Wii can display on a HDTV, but keep in mind the output is only 480p. It is not true high definition, and it will only display this using a component video cable. There shouldn't be a difference with LCD and plasma.

You will also need to go to the display settings to force the Wii to display in 480p.

Try a different input (safe to assume your Sony has multiple?) and see if it is that specific input. Also, try a different device like a DVD player or VCR and see if you get the same result.

Good luck.

Panasonic 50 inch plasma

You should call for warranty service. If the set is very new try to get it exchanged.

There are some very heavy duty power supplies and many high power matrix drivers used in Plasma sets.

The description sounds like the noises are very loud. It is normal with any of these TV sets, if you put your ear right up to the back of the set at the vent holes you will hear some noises. These would be some acoustic harmonics from the power supplies and related circuits.

I am wondering if it is possible that there is something that is becoming less stable. If the set is working very well without any failure, so-far this is a very good sign. Before it gets to be a problem, I would have this checked.

On many models of these sets, they use fans for cooling specific areas. A bad fan can cause noise.
