It makes a sound. You can hear a whirrr noise when you put your ear up to the fridge.

  • alphawolf59 Mar 08, 2008

I don't see a drain. There is the line from the water to the water filter and then one that runs down from that to the lower left had corner. Then another line runs from the lower left hand corner up to the area where the ice maker is. Everything else has a cover on it.

  • alphawolf59 Mar 08, 2008

The drain can keep the freezer and refrigerator both from not cooling?

  • alphawolf59 Mar 08, 2008

I couldn't get the tubing loose, however I did remove the paper cover and found the fan and the compressor. The fan is working fine, although the compressor feels very hot and the copper tubing coming off it and going to the freezer is not cold, cool not cold. I did find a drain back there also that did have a little water in it. I think the compressor is bad.

  • alphawolf59 Mar 08, 2008

There is a small amount of frost in the freezer. Your other explanations make sense. I just can't figure out why it stopped before and then after a couple of days started working again. It might be the computer board. It seems these models do have that problem. I know how much a compressor runs, how about the board?

  • alphawolf59 Mar 08, 2008

Is that the copper tubing coming off the compressor? If so, they are not covered in frost. If not, where are they? Under the big cover on the back?

  • alphawolf59 Mar 08, 2008

Nope, no frost on the copper tubing. Shoot it might be both the compressor and the ADCB.

  • alphawolf59 Mar 08, 2008

Ok, should I unplug it so it won't ruin the motor or the fan? If not, OK. Thanks for all of your help and time too.

I guess the culprit in this case is the compressor.. Do you hear a sound when you are near the refrigirator.. it will be like a fan rotating at a high speed...

Its enclosed in a black case behind the fridge..

  • eagle338
    eagle338 Mar 07, 2008

Ok.. in that case i would suspect that the drain pipe is blocked.. disconnect it from behind the fridge and pour luke warm water into the drain pipe.. do this continously until the water you pour from the top is able to reach the other end of the drain pipe.. try this and let me know so that we can proceed further..

the line runs from the lower left hand corner up to the area where the ice maker is, is the drain pipe. i suspect this is blocked by something and hence the cooling is not occuring..

yes the cool air moves up into the freezing compartment through this and then circulates into the refrigerator. Thats why your freezer is always cooler than the rest of the refrigerator..

I have also heard that the defrost control board (ADCB) is a problematic in this model.. If the cleaning doesn't work then it means that it is a problem with the ADCB and you will have to get it replaced.. also can you tell me if there is any frost present on the cooling coils are covered in frost?

  • eagle338
    eagle338 Mar 08, 2008

Ok.. before we conclude that the compressor is faulty just check if the cooling coils are covered in frost.. If this is not the case then it means that the compressor is faulty...

The ADCB(Adaptive Defrost Control Board) should run you about 40-45$. If you want to replace it yourself then make sure that you turn the power off before attempting as the high operation voltage will be too dangerous... I would advice you get it replaced by a tech anyways as it will cost you just about 20$ for the labor.

yes that copper tubing are the cooling coils.. Did you notice any frost on them?

  • eagle338
    eagle338 Mar 08, 2008

nope.. its only the compressor.. A faulty ADCB will also lead to frost on the cooling coils.. hence its your compressor thats faulty.. You have to get it replaced..

Water dispenser on fridge not working - water pressure fine, could the line be frozen and why would that start happening all of a sudden?

Check to see if the water reservoir in the bottom of the frig is frozen. If it is, you will need to turn the frig temp down.

For the clicking if the fridge has been off for at least 5 min. and clicks when it tries to start then it may be the start relay on the compressor . If it does not stay off for at least 5 min then it may be the control which may also be why your display is not working.

Kenmore s/s f/f; ice dispenser working; water dispenser not

If you can't hear the solenoid on the water inlet valve(it's on the back where the water supply hooks up) when you try the water then the water switch on the dispenser is at fault.

If you do hear it Your water line could be frozen in the door. You can disconnect the line under the unit before it goes into the door at the bottom hinge. Push the dispenser button and see if it comes out there. If it doesleave the door open till it thaws.

If it doesn't come out there disconnect it at the water inlet valve and see if it comes out there.

Check the reservoir behind the crispers for frozen lines. If it is froze it will take several days to thaw out with the frig below 40 degF. If it is not frozen you can disconnect the line at the water valve and see if the lever is operating the valve. Switch, water valve and waterlines and filter. process of elimination to find the culprit. Eric

We had the same issues with the water freezing and called a technician out. He added some extra insulation installed around the water lines inside the refrigerator and we also keep our frig at 40 degrees Fahrenheit, slightly above the manufacturers default setting. Hope this helps.

GE Profile side by side fridge - water dispenser doesn't work

More than likely, your water line is freezing up in the door. You can remove all of the ice cubes and lower the freezer temp to about 3. Leave the freezer door open for about 5 minutes or so and if this does not work, leave the door open a little longer. Also, disconnect the water line at the base of the freezer door, near the floor, and press the dispenser lever. If you have water there, you most likely have a frozen line in the door. Changing the water filter often will help but it is not the answer and is can get quite expensive. By the way, Make sure to hold the dispenser lever forward for at least a couple of minutes each time you test for water flow. If you do not get water at the connector at the base of the door after you have disconnected the line, you have a problem with the valve in the back of the refrigerator.
