Question about Bissell 1960-3 QuickSteamer Plus Upright Vacuum

1 Answer

We have the bissell quicksteamer and as I was shampooing I began to notice something burning so I unplugged our machine immediately; then my mom and I started cleaning all the filters assuming that could be the source of our problem and yes it was a little dirty but I suspected that it would take more thant that to cause our machine to somke soI turned it upside down and noticed there is a cable of copper threads that appear to have some type of rubber or plastic insulation tubing around it but must have overheated and started to melt. There is about an inch of copper threading exposed as far as I can see but it has not unraveled of course I have not opened it up yet I wanted to get your opinion and advice first. thanks!

Was the exposed copper wiring on the electrical cord? If is then replace the cord. The main problem with this model is that Bissell obsoleted it as well as parts for it. But if all you need is a cord, you should be able to get one from a repair shop.

Bissel Quicksteamer leaking

Hi there SmartAlec from NelsonVacuums.com.au here. I do a lot of work on the Vax range of machines (very similar) and 90% of the time it is the filters and/or the seals once they get a build up of shampoo on them they no longer seal properly but once removed and rinsed thoroughly they work again. Rinsing the machine through with clean water after a shampoo job will help this not happen again.
Hope this helps
Happy Vacuuming! :)

A solution to many "non-spray" problems.

The Scotchguard is going to be dicey inside the Bissell, yes, as you have learned the hard way.

I think the Bissell and the Hoover shampoos sold for their carpet cleaning machines are reasonably safe to use in the Bissell. My own personal favorite for use with the Bissell is the Hoover Premium Pet Formula, which is pricey but effective even if you don't own pets. I also pre-treat stained areas with Resolve Carpet Cleaner, a few minutes before using the Bissell.

I don't know what will happen with your home brew containing Dove. It may work well.
