If you forget your Windows password or if your password expires, you must reset your password before you can log on to your computer. This article contains two methods that you can try to reset your password so that you can log on to your computer again. These steps only work if you have previously created a password reset disk for the computer, or if you can log on as an administrator to assign a new password to your account.
If you do not have a reset disk or cannot log on as an administrator, unfortunately, you may have to reinstall Windows XP and all other programs that were installed on the computer before you can use the computer again. This is for security. Without these safeguards, anyone could reset a password to anyone else's computer and gain access to private information. Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns. Thanks.
Underneath the laptop there are removable panels via small screws, usually the largest, is where the RAM lives, anyway find the RAM, and it simply "Clips Out" via clips at the side of each SIMM. Once removed you can simply reverse the Action.

On the Thinkpad's, it's a fairly easy process to reset the passwords. Try the following steps and you should be able to access the computer...
1. Power off the lpatop.
2. Flip the laptop over and open the Memory cover. It should have the diagram of a Dimm on it.
3. Short-circuit the two password pads or put a jumper on the contacts to short the circuit.
4. Remove the jumper, or whatever you used to short the password pads and put the cover back on the bottom of the laptop.
5. Power on the laptop and you should be fine.
I know in desktops theres a switch inside to reset the BIOS password on the motherboard...you simply remove the pin and boot....then reboot. I'm not sure if it works the same, however since you'd have to replace the motherboard otherwise...might as well give it a try. If nothing else try taking out the CMOS battery for maybe 10 to 20 min.
