Question about Kenmore 80754 Top Load Stacked Washer / Dryer

Tub has broken off -- can't open front panel to take a closer look

The tub has broken off from it's base (i'm guessing due to improper loading of clothes). I called a guy to come over and take a look. He charged me $50 to tell me the "shock" was broken and that it would be $500 to fix. I don't have that much money and so I need to fix it myself.

But I can't open anything to take a closer look. I want to open the front panel but I'm stuck -- I don't see any screws or clips. The unit is cramped to the wall in a small space in my kitchen and I can't reach the back.

How do I open the front panel to see the base of the tub? Any help very appreciated. Thanks.

Looks like a whirpool model if model # begins with 110 remove 2 screws holding panel above washer lid on back of top either 2 screws or 2 clips both not easy to get to remove them and slide top off and remove wires to lid switch front panle held on by 2 screws on rear lip panel lifts straight up and off shock may have just separated and you might be able to screw spring and body back together ..good luck

Could the spinning barrel be off center, what has come off?

Front load washers often use a self contained electric drain pump and the motor may be worn or damaged and require the complete pump to be replaced. Remove any foreign objects or replace the worn or damaged pump, thencarefully tighten the hose clamps and check for leaks before installing the cabinet or front panel.

All front-load washing machines have shock absorbers that are used to dampen the tub movement in the spin cycle. The shock absorbers or struts are attached to the base frame and to the outer tub and you will need to remove the front panel or the rear panel to access them. When shock absorbers weaken or become damaged, the machine will often make a loud banging sound during the spin cycle and if the symptom is not corrected, can lead to damage of other components. Inspect the shocks for signs of broken attachments, leaked fluids or a weakened dampening action and replace both shocks if worn. Remove power from the appliance before attempting this repair.

Some models of top-load washers use tub dampening straps to cushion the movement of the tub during the spin cycle. There are four straps attached to the top of the tub and to each corner of the cabinet

Also There are four suspension rods that suspend the tub and allow the tub to free float. If the suspension rods are noisy, there will be a squeaking noise during wash. You can fix this by putting bearing (lithium base) grease in the cup that each rod rests in. If it continues to squeal replace all four rods the cups come with the rods, replace them as well.

If your washer has a loud banging noise during spin the balance weight may be loose. This weight is to counter act the weight of the motor so you will find the weight directly behind the motor. Sometimes simply tightening the bolts will fix your issue but if the bolts are stripped out get some bolts slightly longer than the original bolt to allow you to put a locking nut on the bottom side of the mounting plate. If the weight is broken replace it.

Lastly Washer vibration can be caused by a broken counter balance spring. Ur washer may be equipped with one or more counter balance springs which help to absorb the natural movement of the spinning tub. If a counter balance spring fails the tub might lean in one direction more than another and it will shake and cause vibration.
By the way my advice is free cuz God is good!

We have a GE front load washer WCVH6800. Recently we loaded some throw rugs into the washer. These rugs released a large amount of material. We cleaned the pump filter 3 times and it now seems clean. ...

The water inside the tub will drain out when the pump filter is removed from the pump housing and flood the base of the washer. If not, the tub drain hose is clogged preventing the water to drain into the pump housing then out.

The door is locked because the foam switch in the pressure switch is open due to the presence of water after the unsuccessful drain cycle.

Disconnect the washer from the power outlet. Remove the three screws holding the lower front access panel to the cabinet and pull the panel down to access the pump housing.

Squeeze the clamp that hold the tub drain hose to the pump housing and slide it back. Prepare a pan to catch the water to prevent flooding. The tub drain hose maybe difficult to remove and you may need to insert something under it to break the seal and pull it off.

Remove the tub drain hose from the tub by squeezing the securing clamp and pulling it off the tub drain outlet. Clear the hose and the tub drain outlet from any debris.

Reinstall the tub drain hose and manually unlock the door before reinstalling the access panel. Reach and pull the release ring behind and up the right side of the front panel, then open the door.

Time for the dump. Probably need a new tub lock nut but there may be more damage to the transmission or tub seal which will leak water and it may not be worth the $100 service call for a Tech to tell you you need a new washer. Good time to buy appliances right now, try to get free installation!
