Buffalo Technologies Linkstation Live 500 not working

Hi - I've had one of the above for a week with no problems. I've been connecting to it from xp laptop & desktop, via a standard home network.

Suddenly, the linkstation appears to have stopped working. Status is:

- boots up ok, beeps as normal - no flashing info or error lights (apart from start up flick through)
- is registering itself with a different dns nane than before -

- previously registered with my router in its working state as hs-dhgla28
- now registers as hs-hdgl-ema28

- I can ping it (using this new name); however it doesn't respond on port 80 (http from browser or telnet from cmd line).

- Mapping shares etc. fails, but activity light flickers for quite a few seconds as if something is happening, before pc reports that network path is not available.

Any clues?

All sorted - I installed a later version of the firmware & this seemed to fix the problem.

Computer cannot find LinkStation

Possible fault with the network card or the connection or finally the configuration. So the hardware issue must be checked out swapping the card from the working set. Now check the settings or RESTORE the PC to an earlier set date. Also check the settings as done on the working PC.

Buffalo LS CH1.0TL not recognised by computer on IP or USB

If you are using a Windows OS to access the drive, you will be unable to read the filesystem on this drive, as Windows cannot read XFS file systems which Buffalo uses.

Try downloading/booting off of a Linux live cd (knoppix, ubuntu, etc), they are free for download from their respective websites, and should be able to read that XFS partition.

Ps3 found media server(linkstation) but cannot see any of the video files? can see video files thru windows xp. how do i get ps3 to see the video files?

there is no one blanket answer to this problem that could have many causes. It could be the DLNA server on the linkstation, it could be the version of the firmware on the PS3 or it could be the files that you have on the linkstation, BUT this link on the sony forum touches on some of these and offers some solutions However most people seem to install something called twonky server, which i am planning to do...... hope this gets you started. Link act blue and now computer cannot find it

Jennko, I cant solve this problem, but I am having a very similar problem myself because i moved, and replaced network hardware when i moved. I believe this has something to do with DHCP addressing. I hope someone out there can help us. If you got a solution to this, can you forward to me? danny @ dannyhowell . me (no spaces)
