Question about Pioneer DEH-P690UB CD Player

1 Answer

Will not play all songs on mp3 cd

I recently burned an mp3 cd on iTunes but my hu (Pioneer DEH-6900) only plays the first few songs. When I press "list" and start looking through the folders, it will show all of the artists' names but will only contain files up to a certain artist. For example, on this CD, i have artists Alkaline Trio through Xavier Rudd but the hu only reads up to John Butler Trio. Past john butler trio, the hu says none of the artists contain folders or files. When I manually skipped each song, it went up to the last john butler trio song and then went back to the alkaline trio song. Other times when i have burned mp3 cd's with less artists (ie the last cd contained 16 artists) but with just as many songs the hu read the cd just fine. I have just counted and up to john butler trio, there are 28 artists. Sorry this was such a long post but I was trying to be as descriptive as possible. Also, when i put the CD in my computer, my computer reads all of the files just fine. If you need any more details or actual pictures, I will put them up or e-mail them.

    1. They are true MP3 files
    2. The CD is organized like this: Artist-->Album-->Songs
    3. It was burned in one session
    4. The HU does not even show the songs it doesn't play. It will display all of the Artists but the folders don't contain anything. When I am browsing the artist list on the HU, to the right of the screen, it will show how many files and folders are in the highlighted folder, but past a certain artist, the rest of the artists' folders are shown to be empty.

    Thank you very much for your quick response!

    Including all of the artists and albums shown on the HU, there are a total of 99 folders. I guess that is my problem. Do you know of a way that I could burn an MP3 CD organized by just artists and not by albums?

    Thanks for the help!

    I do appreciate your descriptiveness! But even with that, I need to ask a few questions first (as stupid as they may seem):

    1. The files burned to the CD are true-blue MP3 formatted files? Not MP3pro, AAC, WMA, or some other compressed format?

    2. Is your CD organized like this: Root-->Artist Folder-->Artist songs? Or are the more sub-folders within the artist folder (i.e. specific CDs)?

    3. Was the disc burned in one session, or multiple?

    4. Is there anything odd or special about the very first song the HU isn't able to see (i.e. extra long name, special characters in the ID3 tag, etc)?

It's possible you are reaching the 99 folder limit of the deck. Count how many folders (artist folders and album folders) there are between Alkaline Trio through John Butler Trio. The manual says there is a maximum of 99 folders acceptable, but it doesn't say what happens if you have more.
I also assume the bitrate of the songs is 320kpbs or below, yes?
The manual also mentions "Folder hierarchy is allowed up to eight tiers. However, practical hierarchy of folder is less than two tiers", whatever that might mean.

    Try reading the instructions in the "How to burn by album" section of this link:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?...

    That should only create folder for albums, like this:

    (Folder) Alkaline Trio - Album #1
    ---->Alkaline Trio - Song #1
    ---->Alkaline Trio - Song #2
    (Folder) Alkaline Trio - Album #2
    ---->Alkaline Trio - Song #1
    ---->Alkaline Trio - Song #2

Make sure that the music files are indeed mp3 format. An iPod will play several different formats but most av head units only play mp3. A lot of the songs that are downloaded from iTunes are actually mp4

Can the pioneer DEH- 1800 play mp3

No, I'm afraid not. Usually you can tell if a pioneer will play mp3 cds, because there should be "mp" in the model number. Such as "deh-1800mp".

My HTC aria phone wont play music off my radio, when connected it says error 19?

HTC and other Android phones doesn't have the USB support for your HU. Only way to get signal from the phone to the HU is to use AUX 3mm cable from the phone to the aux port on the deck, assuming there is one. Other wise you will continue to get errors. USB is for Iphone and Ipod only!!!

When I burn i cd with iTunes some songs won't play and others will. why?

What format are the songs in, ie- mp3 / wma etc. make sure the device you are trying to play your cd on recognises these formats. if unsure compare the format of the songs, to the songs that do and don't work, the ones that won't play are probably in a format not recognised by your player, this is common in older or cheaper players.

WMA/MP3 Playback will not work

This may be a problem with the internal software within the pioneer device. Try burning your music using the wav extension. these files are larger than the mp3 but, this should play well. you may need to try an updated version of the burning software you are using as well. this could be the problem.
