Question about Sony Grand WEGA KDF-60XS955 60" Rear Projection HDTV
I have the above named television it has always worked great until about 2 years ago. It made a loud pop then shut off, at first it would come back on after a while but now it wont. I did pay a local repairman to come pick it up repair it and return it.... within weeks it was doing it again. when i called them they said unplug it for 30 minutes and plug it back in. THAT DID NOT HELP AT ALL. so much for having him fix any thing in the future.
also a fuse popped inside near the power supply and i had one to replace it with (it has been quite sometime but i seem to think i put a weaker fuse in it than what was there) what amp should that be to be proper?
the set was made in 1992 but i would like to save it if i can.
any help would be much appreciated.
We have a saying in the TV business, " TV's age just like Cats" so at 16 years old you could have several problems. The most common is as capacitors age they loose the ability to function properly. this causes voltages to change and stresses out components like resistor, Ic's and many other high voltage components. This will also cause cold solder joints at the solder connection that can easily destroy a set. Even if you change all the capacitor, resistor that are bad or week when the set runs again it now has different voltages and usually destroys other componet in a short time. So what happens is you keep pouring cash to fix this set that seems to fail every six or nine months. Then the other problem, most manufacture only carry componets for about 7 years after the model end production, what this means if you need a special part like the high voltage transformer or CRT these most likely will not be available. The bottom line is this.... After you spend a few hundred bucks fixing this set that in all likelihood will not last more than six moths you know what you have?.... A 16 year old set
