The ceramic handle adapter broke in the faucet and I purchased a new Moen Adapter kit. In order to put the new adapter in, I must remove the handle hub. How do I do this?

There is a red and blue button on your faucet handle. Remove it and use a 3/32" allen key to remove the handle. Remove lever handle adapter assembly to gain access to cartridge. Retainer nut must also be removed. Pay attention to the position of the notch on the brass part of the cartridge. The notch on the new cart must face the same way. Have fun reassembling because it's not fun. I suggest you take pics every step of the way because you THINK you will remember, but that isn't usually how it works out. Good luck!

Unthread the handle hub (ccw), once detached, turn the handle upside down. There is a Phillips screw inside that once loosened (ccw) will allow you to replace the adapt.

That is very odd that you can not order the Moen part, have you contacted Moen directly? They are usually very good about there parts, if you are checking at your local hardware store you will probably get nowhere. I suggest your local plumbing wholesaler like EMCO, but if you call Moen directly you should be able to get the part.

The handle adapters that Moen makes are right and left. Because you bought a universal one, it works on both the right and left, but only turns one way. If you but an original Moen part, you won't have this problem.

These faucets can leak in three different places:

1. Internally at the valve seat
   You'll see water dripping from the spout. This means the rubber washer is worn or damaged. To replace the washer, remove the decorative cap from the handle. Remove the retaining screw and pull off the handle. Remove the decorative cover, called an escutcheon, if there is one. Unscrew the packing nut counterclockwise. Unscrew the valve stem and remove it. Remove the screw that holds the rubber washer in place. Because these washers come in many shapes and sizes, you'll want to take the old one to the hardware store and buy an exact replacement. Be sure to buy two washers so you'll have one for the other valve. Replace the washer and reassemble the faucet.
   
2. Around the handle
   If you see water coming from below the handle, the packing nut is leaking. Older faucets have a string-like graphite packing material wrapped around the stem. Newer faucets use an O-ring. First try tightening the packing nut clockwise... about one-half turn. If this doesn't stop the leak, remove the packing nut and replace the packing or O-ring; then reassemble the faucet. If the valve is using the graphite packing material, it might be a clue that you should shop for a new faucet.
   
   
3. Between a pivoting spout and the body
   The spout might be held in place with a packing nut, similar to the faucet stem, or it might have a nut at the top of the spout. In either case, remove the spout and replace the packing material or the O-ring seal. Then reassemble the faucet.

Single lever faucets also are known as "washerless" faucets. They are easier to repair than compression faucets after you determine what type of faucet you have. There are three types of washerless faucets: ball, ceramic disk and cartridge.
Leaks are evident in two places... dripping from the spout and seeping from around the spout where it joins the body of the faucet.
Leaks from the spout indicate that the ball, disk or cartridge is leaking. To repair, turn off the water to the faucet, then remove the handle. The handles on ball-type faucets are held in place with a setscrew that requires an Allen wrench to loosen. Ceramic disk and cartridge-type handles usually are held in place by a screw hidden beneath a cap.
On ball and ceramic disk-type faucets, remove the ball or disk and replace the seals. You can buy replacement kits for these faucets at the hardware store or home center.
On cartridge-type faucets, remove the spout and pull out the retainer clip that holds the cartridge in place. To remove the cartridge, pull on the cartridge stem with a twisting motion. If it resists, install the handle so you can a better grip on the cartridge to pull it out. Take the cartridge to the hardware store or home center and purchase an exact replacement kit.
Reassemble the faucet according to directions.
Leaks at the spout-to-body joint indicate an O-ring failure. Disassemble the faucet as described above. Remove the spout sleeve and replace the O-rings. It's a good idea to replace these seals if you have the faucet disassembled for repair of the ball, disk or cartridge.

You may be able to find the washer at a local hardware store (like Ace or Tru-Value). Alternatively, call Moen or visit the Moen site. 1-800-BUY-MOEN or http://www.moen.com/replacement-parts/product?product=IMGLIB:CA84437BN to order replacement parts.

You'll have to pay for the washer kit. However, if the hub and elbow or the lever are damaged, call Moen and see if they will replace it under warranty.

MOEN ARE NOTORIOUSLY difficult to get appart. There is a "Special tool" just for Moen faucets/tubs/showers. It is like an old "Brake drum puller" or "Faucet handle puller". I think about $10 to $12 at Home Depot or Lowes. FYI Moen and Delta both give "FREE PARTS" on "MOST" faucets for many years if not life, if your not in a hurry. Check your original paperwork for warranty. The washer at the end of the valve after being installed for more than a year, usually binds up and gets torn apart when removed. It makes it VERY difficult to remove, even with the "Special tool". They (Moen) give you a plastic wrench like thing that almost never works, with the purchase of a "New valve" DELTA800-345-3358 ..MOEN-800-289-6636

Remove handle to gain acess to the temperature limit stop. Remove handle and pull out handle adapter kit and next there is a dail that can be adjusted to control the water to balance the temp. It could have been installed wrong, pay attention to where it is now and pull it back to it disengages out of the stem and move it counter clockwise a little and reinstall. Put handle on and test water for correct movement.

it sound's like you pulled to hard and broke it.if you have a thin piece w/o-ring's made of copper,ya broke it.it will take some work to get out,a punch awl with the end bent slightly should do, the sleeve is made of plastic.

Lowes might carry them but i know a plumbing supply house does for sure. Take center caps off hot and cold handls, then screws everything else should pull right off.
