I replaced the black ink in my C84 (EPSON ink) and it did not print black any more. I did the head cleaning several times until my color inks got low. I replaced those also (all of this is rather expensive and still not have a printer) but nothing. I did some more head cleaning but still no printing. In fact, every time I try to print a small graphic file, the image gets weaker until it just disappears. Now it goes thru the motions of printing but nothing comes out on the paper.

Come to think of it, I had the same problem with a C82 until I gave up and trashed it when I bought the C84. Is this an Epson design problem? Is this the reason I don't find these printers at the store anymore?

Exact same thing has just happened to me.....called technical support and with difficulty talked to someone in the Phillipines who had me do all the same things I had done numerous times, finally determined there is a "hardward" problem..........bottom line, four brand new inks unusable later, the machine no longer prints, which of course is its only function, and the loser ultimately will be Epson because I will never buy another Epson product. But before I junk the whole mess, if anyone has any suggestions to clear the nozzles which may or may not be the problem, or override the "hardware" problem, I would be interested.

This was very abrupt, and after working just fine--so sad.

I just bought a black cartridge for the C84 and am having the exact same problem. No black ink! I looked up troubleshooting online and it said to clean the print head 8 times!! I did that and nothing! Can anyone solve this problem??

I bought a new black cartridge to replace my empty one and when I put it in nothing would print.  I cleaned the heads 6 times.  The color ink is fine, but the black is spotty at best.

Ditto.  Printing was getting bad.  I replaced teh black ink cartridge as it indicated and it went from bad to worse.  Barely any black ink comes through even after multiple cleanings.

I, too have purchased multiple ink cartridges, cleaned the nozzle heads a dozen times - and still no black ink will print.

You are asking because you got a message like this:
parts inside my printer are reaching their end of service life?Read about it at this link:http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Storesupport/InkPadsForm.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes.
4 options:
1. Reset the printer with the utility above (after realizing that IF the pads are actually near full, which I've only seen once, ink will start overflowing onto your desk sometime in the future (put the printer on a baking pan for safety).
2a. Replace pads yourself (a pain and cost more than the printer is worth) parts drawing and parts are available at:http://www.compassmicro.com/
The rest is disassembly- either the service manual - you might find free (or a YouTube video), but definitely for $ at:http://www.2manuals.com/index.php?cPath=2_39
JUST DON'T TRY DOING THIS WITHOUT some guidance- you will end up at option 3 eventually if you do this you will still need to do # 1 to reset the counter2b. Have service firm do it ( way more than the printer is worth)
3a.If you really "love" that C84, or have a bunch of ink - look on Craigslist or ebay
3b. Buy "refurbished" epson printer with warranty, inks and probably free shipping at:http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/jsp/EsHome.do?BV_UseBVCookie=yes

My printer broke, so my friend gave me a epson

Try that link. I am going to try it myself and see if their suggestion clears my problem because just like you, I got a c84 and now despite all inks being replaced it is still acting like it's printing but only sending out blank pages.

C84 stylus - put new cartridges in and it doesn't print full text or all color

Did you use Original Epson Cartridge? I have learned from experience, that Epson does not like generic ink. You must use Epson Genuine Cartridges. Hopefully, you haven't screwed up the printer, like I did. I did try cleaning the heads and doing everything possible. Use 2 cartridges of ech set, for cleaning, cleaning, cleaning. ......But Nothing.
Had to go out and purchase a new printer.;
Good Luck :0(

Asker's Testimonial " Thank you. Called Epson also and they didn't say it as directly, but advised real Epson ink too. Hope I didn't kill the printer! Generic ink for sale " - mclamemo

Printer wont print out in colour The inks are full. The black ink works but not the colour inks, Epson stylus C84

Epson Requires Original Epson Ink.
Colors will not come out as they should, and then the words will print out only either top or bottom.
Good Luck....

Epson c84 printer not printing after installing new ink cartidges

Hi, Linda
You may buy cartriges of different producers.
Depending on producer on them can be or be not special yellow detachable labels.
These are an yellow labels must be removed from them. Then put cartridges back. And try to clean head 4-5 times. And check nozzle test.
Good luck.

Epson Stylus C84

Sorry but It uses Durabrite ink which tends to turn into hard gel if not printed at least once a week. Its less painful and expensive to just throw the printer out and buy a new one. I recommend the canon PIXMA ip3500. It lets you remove the printhead for cleaning unlike the Epson. If you want to try your luck at unclogging the printer heres a link to a unclogging kit but be warned that results are not guaranteed!

The durabrite inks that EPSON invented is brilliant when you print pictures but it tends to harden very easily

BIG PROBLEM

If any of the ink cartridges are needing to be replaced, the Epson C84 will not print, you will have to change the cartridge, if you lift up the printer lid the carrier will stop at the empty ink colour.
