Question about Projection Televisions

I have a Motorola CATV box and cable with Charter. On Demand has messed up. When I select On Demand I get the following error code 403 (5,519). Charter has sent a signal through the line to reset, but it doesn't work. Is there something I can do locally reset? Thanks.

I left it off for five minutes, and still get the error message. However, it is now saying the service will be restored soon. A few minutes later I try again and the error message is back.

Could not find a reset button. Probed every likely looking hole. Box is on a surge protector -- problem happened when I went back to a regular channel and then came baqck to On Demand.

    Have a Motorol a CATV converter model DCT 2224 / 1661 / ACDEG and when I go ror to On Demand I get a Code 403 (5,519).

Problem started when I was watching a movie, switched to a regular channel and tried to go back to the movie on On Demand. Several times Charter has sent a reset signal over the lines with no success.

Have looked for a reset button and found none. Have unplugged the box for as long as five minutes with no success.

I'm suspecting I need to get a new box, but don't want to tear into all the cables if possible.
    Thanks.

"Poor signal strength." That was it. My cable was coming in first to the DVD player, then the CATV box and on to the TV.

Took the DVD player out of the loop and tried. Got the error code. Tried a second time and it worked just fine.

    Thank You!!!!!

If it is hooked of to a duplexer you will need to have charter provide you with a new one or purchase one at radio shack. I had this problem not too long ago it is due to poor signal strength going from the cable box to them.

also, there should be a reset button(usually recessed) that you can probe with an opened up paper clip. Hold that in for 10 seconds, and then see how that clears up the signal.

this happens, by the way, when a power glitch hits your digital electronics. You might consider putting the box on a surge suppressor.

sounds to me like if your cable system folks can't reset it, from their end, you're a good candidate for a service call from them. sounds like a blown box to me.

well.that's the only solution you'll find for those. I go way back to the very first set top boxes from HBO, and those folks don't like it, and make it almost impossible to open and do anything inside.

thanks for using Fixya..and you might reconsider your decision.

perfect..figures that Charter couldn't punch through the DVD box..usually, you'll want to run a splitter on that anyway.

thanks for using Fixya and rating someone as FixYa.

CAN HDMI BE REPLACED?

Yes an HDMI port can be replaced, but more likely you will need to replace the entire board the HDMI resides on. Ports are typically just conductors, ie wires. It's probably not the conductors that are messed up, it's more likely the circuitry that decode the HDMI signal that is messed up. Check your cables and whatever you're trying to connect on another TV with HDMI (perhaps a friends if you don't have another TV with an HDMI port) and make sure your cables and cable box are both operational.

Front power indicator blinks, clicking/high pitch sound

  1. This how to is to repair hard drive, software and some firmware issues that can arise on specific cable DVR and DAC and DCT boxes, First instructions are for Scientific Atlanta hardware. Firstly, one should be certain that the cable box has the coax (cable antenna wire) hooked up to the CABLE IN or RF IN on the box itself and be connected to a "hot" outlet - one that you KNOW works. Test it by connecting a TV directly to outlet. If you get a weak signal, the box will too. Digital boxes require a clean SNR. Remove in-line "surge protectors" on the coax. These prevent the signal from being sent by your cable provider to your box.
  2. Scientific Atlanta DVR or High Def boxes:These need to be "booted" or reset when certain errors occur. No audio on certain channels when SAP is NOT set to ON and confounding error codes that one can't seem to get out of. Common yet confounding errors are : No Audio on DVR Playback. No Audio on Certain Various Channels (ruling out SAP which can be enabled through the box, OR the television set itself) there are easy ways to test. If some channels audio is in Spanish when they are normally in English...the obviously you will check SAP first.
  3. Disc errors. On screen error on your TV that says something like..."there are problems with your storage disc.." or upon DVR playback instead of playing your program it loops upon itself and plays nothing.
  4. two different steps to reboot box: Simultaneously press VOL+ VOL- and "INFO" buttons on box itself, not from remote. Box will then display "bOOt" and shut down totally. Do not press ANY buttons or try to power on said box. Wait for the correct time to display on the box. This process can take anytime from 40 seconds to hours, depending on how fast the cable company's servers are responding at that moment and whether or not you have enough of a cable signal to fire up the download process. If you call customer service for your provider if this does not work, most likely a truck roll will be run for a tech to come out to your residence to fix the signal issue.
  5. When the correct time display is on the Scientific Atlanta box, THEN power on box and problems should be solved. An alternate way to reboot box is to simply unplug unit from power supply and replugging it in. Simply powering it on and off with the POWER ON button will not solve anything.
  6. On a Motorola box and/or DVR, the easy VOL+ VOL- and INFO will not work to reboot. Remove AC power plug from wall socket and wait 30 seconds to a minute while box is powered ON. Plug back in to wall socket.Box will "do it's own thing" and power itself on on it's own after the cycle has been successful (30 - 60 seconds) and the box should power itself back to the ON without you doing anything. Time will not display on Motorola"General Instrument boxes unless you set it up to do so in the settings mode.
  7. Common IControl/On Demand errors:
  8. MOTOROLA BOX Error 225 : A billing lock to prevent you from ordering pay per views. If your account is past due, or if you have an order to move to a new address in the service provider's "system", this is a preventive measure to keep customers from loading up tons of expensive pay per views and skipping out. Your cable company cannot over-ride this error. If you are not in above situations, your provider can "up" the limit on the box and clear it so you can order PPV through your remote control.
  9. SCIENTIFIC ATLANTA: for above mentioned error code, your SA box will display not a code but a prompt to contact your provider by telephone. Same issue.
  10. MOTOROLA BOX ERRORS 204...203.. 207..these may be easily solved by simply reseating the coax and then rebooting box.
  11. SCIENTIFIC ATLANTA ERRORS 2207: reboot box. This is a general code meaning the box has lost contact with the server. All of your iControl /On Demand orders come through your local cable head-end's servers. If and when it gets overloaded and times out, error 2207/207 will happen. Most of the time this is temporary. Reboot box, try again in 15-20 minutes.
  12. DVR BOX not displaying/recording/playing items:
  13. Reboot. Good chance of fixing.
  14. If your TV displays "One Moment, Please. Your Channel Should Be Available Shortly..." this is a SIGNAL issue. Reseat the line running from wall to the CABLE/RF IN on the box and at the outlet at wall. If no joy, call cable operator.

Do I need a converter box for a Hitachi 53uwx10ba TV?

Check to see what input the set is on--set in menu to catv or cable and connect with set on three if using a box---if not then auto program for channels.

If set on catv you should with the remote be able to direct enter a channel to see if tuner in set works or hook a dvd etc to a rear input to set to see if it works that way.

Can only pick up chanel from 2 thru 13,do i need a box converter all other tv get 98 stations

A converter box will allow you to get all the channels but if you are only getting 2-13 now go into the customer menu and I think you will find the set is in the AIR band and not the CATV band.

With the remote you should be able to move it into the CATV or cable mode and then if needed find and select auto program.

The fact you are only getting 2-13 means it is not in the CATV or cable mode.

If this helped you rate this solution as I do this here for Free.

Through Amazon a Brookstone's "Jumbo Universal Remote" was delivered - there is no identification of who manufactures this remote. We need to have it control an AT&T-California cable box which was...

I happen to be a Jumbo Universal remote Expert here at Fixya, so I hope I can help. It is possible that this remote just won't run your Motorola cable box, but I wouldn't give up until I had tried the codes from the list in the manual, as well as run through the auto-setup feature of the remote for CBL and for SAT, where it just tries all the cable box codes one at a time.

I was able to find a working motorola codes for an Innovage Jumbo Remote, a three digit code remote you might as well try: 051.

You have probably tried the codes for Motorola (031) and GI (000, 032) from the manual using these steps:

1. Turn on the device with which you want to use the remote control.
2. Locate a 3-digit code for your device. (000, 031 & 032 for example)
3. Press and hold the corresponding button on the remote control
(CBL) for approximately three seconds. The POWER INDICATOR illuminates.
4. Enter the 3-digit code for your device within 30 seconds. The POWER INDICATOR shuts off.
5. Press the ON /OFF button to verify correct code entry. If the device shuts off, the code was entered correctly. If the device does not shut off, repeat steps 3-4, using a different code located on the Code List.

If those are still a bust, try the GI SAT codes 018 & 019.

Have you tried the following steps with both CBL and then SAT to search it's database?

1. Turn on the device with which you want to use the remote control.
2. Press and hold the corresponding button on the remote control
(SAT or CBL) until the POWER INDICATOR on the remote control illuminates. The remote control is in programming mode.
3. Press and release ON /OFF. The POWER INDICATOR on the remote control flashes once and stays on indicating the unit is in Power Scan mode.
4. Press CHANNEL UP or CHANNEL DOWN repeatedly until the device turns off.
5. When the device turns off, press any key to store the code.
6. Press any other button. If the device responds, the remote control has been programmed. If the device does not respond, repeat steps 2-5.

I hope that helps.

PIP does not work

The PIP can only use one tuner at a time, if one is on CATV, the other has to be on an AV input. you would need a catv box for the AV input for this to properly function.

Bought a proscanlcd hdtv 32lb30Q unable to get cable signal

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, pls confirm if below is how it is wired using a coaxial cable and not 3cable RCA to RCA:
  • Charter Digital Cable > DVD/VCR > TV
If yes and your concern is snowy or no signal on the TV screen, might it be that you have to power OFF the DVD/VCR when selecting channels on the TV itself (including when channel setup is being done).

Alternately, you can tune the TV to channel 3 and let the DVD/VCR do the channel selections.

Pls post back results. Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

QUAM TUNER

Doubt it. We ran HD through our small CATV system using consumer grade modulators but could only get them on the AIR frequencies, as we had very limited bandwidth as we had to carry 64 analog channels plus digital HITS packages for our Motorola DSxxx series boxes. Try plugging the CATV feed into the ANT input and do an autoprogram, or tell the tv to look on the AIR frequencies when it asks if you have CATV or AIR. Worth a shot though.
