We have "Comcast" with a Motorola box on top of the TV
How do I go about disabeling the closed caption from this box.

  • rudy 911 Mar 08, 2008

    I have no cable box.
My Quest cable comes through a small Motorola
    converter into the TV set.
There is no place to turn this off.
If I disconnect the cable and press Menu my options are very limited and no place to disable caption

Having contacted "Comcast", our service provider I have been told that the problem has to be in our TV set or it's remote control and **t in their service. They say, there is ** way for them to control close captioning with the equipment they provided us.

actually the set top box or the box that is used to bring the channels consists of a decoder that performs the captioning...

You cannot turn it on and off with the remote. You must either have the
cable receiver enabled and have closed caption all the time or disable
it in the receiver and not have it at all.

turn your cable box off, and

THEN press menu on the box.

    A white screen will
    pop up and

this is where I had to scroll down to and

    disable the
    captions.

Does the toshiba 27a44 have closed captioning?

Hello
You have two options with closed caption feature.
Captions of Text
A caption is a printed version of a dialogue narration and/or sound effects of a programme. Text is information not related to the programme that appears on half of the TV screen when available.

To view Caption or Text

[1] Select the desired programme. Closed captioned programme are usually marked in your local TV listing as "CC"
[2] Press CAPTION/TEXT repeatedly to select caption or text mode.
[3] Press 1/2 to select the caption or text channel.
[4] To turn to off the closed caption feature, press CAP/TEXT repeatedly until captions or text no longer display 0n-screen.
Ok.

There is a large black rectangle in the middle of the screen. It goes away for a second when I press the EXIT button on the remote and for about 4 seconds when I press the RECALL button on the remote. ...

This is a text box. This can be turned off under the closed captioning. There should be a cc button on your remote or the closed captioning features can be accessed from your television's menu. Turn closed captioning completely off to get rid of these text boxes.

Keep in mind that closed captioning can also come from your cable box or satellite receiver as well.

MINTEK TV - Black screen in the center of the picture

This is the closed captioning text box. Search the menus to turn off closed captioning. The reason for its seemingly random appearance is that not all channels nor all programs provide this service.

Most cable remotes allow you to set many basic functions to somewhat control your TV with the proper code. They may not have all the capabilities of the original remote but CC is one that it should allow you to access.
Check your manual or instructions from the cable company or their website for instructions on how to do this with your remote and set.
It may take some time and the input of several different codes since all of the manuafacturers seem to love changing them from one model to the next.

How to get rid of a black screen on my tv. sound is ok

If you mean that you get a black box, with a little of the picture visible around the edges, then your closed captions are on and set to TEXT. This puts a black box on the screen about 10 seconds after changing the channel. Go into the menu and turn off the closed captions and the picture will be back to normal.
