My Magellan Meridian Gold GPS works with a car cradle but does not power up with its own battery power. How can I fix my receiver to work with its batteries?

You may find the problem is with the connections from the battery to the circuit board.
Take the back off and check the battery connectors where they contact the board. They may need cleaning or re aligning

Meridian gold gps will not turn on

Try to connect your gps device to a computer to see if it will charge or turn on. Then you try to use your battery on another gps to see if it will come on,if it comes on, then it means the battery is okay, but if it does not turn on, then it means the battery is bad and need to be replaced. Try to use another battery in your gps to see if it will come on. If it works, then that settles it, but if it does not, then it means there is an internal problem with the unit.

Wont power up

This may help. I have had the same problem from time to time. I took the back off ( slowly don't break the four wires connected to the back) then I cleaned the connections where the battery pins press to the main board.

Meridian gold problems

netopir, I assume you have tried replacing batteries at least a couple times?
I wonder if tedford has corrosion inside his unit. The Gold has a rubber gasket and is a bit water resistant, but high humidity and salt water exposure would take a toll on the electronics inside.

Power on

Hi.. I also have the same GPS that you have, try to press the power button for 5 second and release it.

If it does'nt power up with a new batteries i think there's a problem inside the unit.

Hope it helps..

Magellan Meridian Gold

I unscrewed the 6 screws holding the back to the Meridian Gold unit and looked at the contacts. I noticed that one of the curved prongs that makes contact from the battery to the unit was bent low so I knew it was not making contact and preventing the unit from working. So I very gently took the small screwdriver and pulled it out a bit so that contact was the same height as the other. Screwed the back back on, reinstalled the batteries, presto - works like a charm now. Anyone can do it.

Now I need someone to tell me what alternative GPS map packages giv e the most bang for the buck as my Map Send CDs were accidently thrown out by a well meaning person cleaning up my desk....
