We have put jet dry and changed soaps but it always leaves a white film on the dishes! No other appliances have problems with this in the house.

Thanks for your question. You may have a couple of problems, first if you are using jet dry it is a surfactant. Which means that it places a small amount of a chemical on you dishes to keep them from spotting. If your dishwasher is releasing to much this will cause a white coating on dishes. In the loading area for you jet dry or liquid spot rinse there should be a knob that is marked from 1-5 or so. First turn this dial all the way down to 1. This will reduce the amount of jet dry released. Then monitor the amount of jet dry that you are going through. You should be able to get about 60 loads from a small bottle of jet dry. The other problem may be that you have washed a item that was not dishwasher safe, like a plastic bowl or such. Some of these items will leech the pigment into your dishwasher and then onto you dishes.
I might suggest that you purchase some dishwasher cleaner from you local Store. Walmart and most box stores carry this in the same section that you purchase your detergent. You will need to empty the dishwasher, following the instructions on the cleaner insert into your dishwasher. Then run it through a complete cycle. After attempting these items please let me know if you still have an issue, but I am almost certain that you will have corrected the problem. Thanks D.R. Wilkins

I have purchased a business - with a Hobart LXi - and no manual. I can't figure out what soap etc to use - or how it gets into the dishwasher!

Contact your local chemical supplier such as EcoLab or AutoChlor to purchase the proper chemicals. Use ONLY commercal dish washing chemicals. Residential detergents like Cascade do not dissolve fast enough and WILL, in time, cause you trouble if used in the LXi.

There should be three colored plastic tubes at the rear of your machine. Red is to be put in a container of liquid detergent, Blue is for rinse aid, and white/clear is for sanitizer. Your chemical salesman should be able to show you how it's done at no charge.

You may also want to register here http://www.hobartservice.com/Manuals/ then download the manuals for the LXi dish machine.

All the best.

I just purchased an LDF6920. It does not dry the dishes. In fact, there is water remaining in the bottom, and all the dishes and drum and door are beaded with water. It suggests putting some sort of...

First off, there should not be any (visible) water standing in the bottom of the dishwasher after the cycle is done. If yes, check the drain, installation of drain line, etc.
Second: The LG is a very energy efficient dishwasher, but in order to acheive this, it does not use a heater to dry the dishes. It relies on the residual heat from the hot water used in the wash cycle, plus a small fan to vent some moist air. It is imparative that you have soft water and use a product such as Jet Dry to assist with drying on the LG dishwashers. Even at that, plastic items (which retain little heat from the water) will not dry well, if at all. Plates, pots, glass, anything with some mass will dry. You may have to adjust the Jet Dry dispenser setting up a bit. If it is set too high, you will get white streaks on your dishes, so then back it off just a bit.

Ouch.

Before you start changing all sort of parts, correct your problem with the wires. You may have to change most of them, depending on how bad the chemical burned tru them.

A good cleaning is required because that soap is going to continue chewing on those wires.

You're right about a short causing other component failure. But first repair those wires
