I purchased this set in late 2005. Since then, it has run 14 hours a
day with no problems. Yesterday, the fan started making a noise. The
noise sounds like it is a fan bearing going bad. Can I replace the fan?
Where do I get one from? I assume, due to the amount of use, that this
is a typical problem, or am I way off base? Thanks
Thanks man. Just got home from work and vacuumed the back and turned it on. No noise as of 15 minutes in. I believe the fan that cools the main bulb was the one making the noise. If it starts again I will localize and post the info. Thanks for the help. Thanks man. Just got home from work and vacuumed the back and turned it on. No noise as of 15 minutes in. After 30 minutes of use the noise started again. It is the fan that cools the bulb. I can see the bulb through the fan. I blew canned air into the fan and it quieted it down for about 5 minutes. I need to know the part number and if I can change the fan without too much trouble. After 30 minutes of use the noise started again. It is the fan that cools the bulb. Looked your set up and this model DOES NOT have the famous color wheel in it so if very well could be a fan, question is there are three. All differant sizes and have differant part numbers so you will have to find out which one and get back to us on its location.

This is by far the best xl2400 site ive come across so far. Has all the details as well as replacement guide and a direct link to amazon.com for purchasing...definitely check it out if you have any questions or concerns.
Yes, its gets hot, try cleaning the fan blades, dust collects on the fins of it. damp paper towel will do, just wipe them off one by one, may have to replace it. Oh, be sure to unplug it from wall.....you can get parts from Mats Eletronics #1-800-628-1118.hope this helps
Have you tried a lamp?? Most common problem with these Sony projo LCD sets. If not...you ma have a "fan stop" issue--that is preventing the set from coming up due to one or more fans not running, probably due to dust. One other possible problem--if the set is totally dead--with no fans running or such, is a bad thermal cutoff , near the lamp, or possibly a lamp door switch not making good closure.
There are more than 1 fan in the set; however, the last one to turn off is the lamp fan. The lamp fan keeps your lamp cool and helps extend the life of your projection bulb.
You could either replace the fan, or remove the fan from the set and give it a good cleaning (that's all it might need). However, be aware, fans that go bad in these sets will start to shut down your tv and decrease the life of your lamp. Be on the lookout for intermittent or sudden shutdowns, as those can definitely indicate a bad fan.
4 times blink error shows that any FAN is not running in TV as there are 4 fans in this TV. Please check fan connectors and make sure all are plugged securely.
Sorry, Sony is having a lot of problems with the light engine ($$$) on
these models. Contact Sony as they are covering them even though
they are out of warranty (class action lawsuits)
