Minka Aire (Ceiling Fan) Logo
Anonymous Posted on Mar 09, 2010

I bought and had installed a Minka Aire Ultra Max ceiling fan about 4 months ago. It works great with the remote and until about a month ago I had no problems with it. Now, it has developed a clicking sound on medium and high, whether in forward or reverse! What could this be? If it is covered under warranty, does that mean I'll have to pay someone to take it down, then send it in, and then again, pay someone to reinstall it????? Thanks! Eve

There is no hanging chain on the fan, as it has a remote control. I know that fans can get off-balance, but they shouldn't, should they? And my question still exists, do I have someone come to fix this problem, or could it be a warranty issue, and how do I proceed at this point? Thanks!

A lot of fans have a clicking noise if they have a chain hanging down and the balance is not perfect and the fan wiggles a little. It will only happen at certain speeds that are "resonant" where the swinging can build up. The pull chain then makes the noise as it hit the case.

Yes, these fans DO get out of balance, very often.

Another source of clicking if the fan sways even a tiny bit is if you have lights under it that have the glass things held by three screws... those often click if the fan sways a tiny but as it rotates.

Another source is the ball nearings can make a bit of noise.

Yet another source is the down rod to hanger joint. Any small swaying can make a lot of clicking as the hanger moves.

Balancing these fans is a real pain... I have added washers to the screws to add weight. One can add rubber bands to bllades to try to find a better balance then replace with extra washers.

Minka Aire model f603 reverse switch?

Not sure what model of fan or manufacture you have. Says Hunter 52" & Minka aire F603. If it's the Minka , Then push the button on the lower part of the remote (6 o'clock). If that doesn't work then you might need a new receiver.

Minka aire ceiling fan

This may not apply. There could be an electrical problem. But if you installed the bulb with your hand, the oil on your skin can cause the buld to heat excessively and fail. I suggest you use the packaging or part of it when installing it, taking great care not to touch it.
