Question about Hitachi 51F500 51" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

1 Answer

Focus we have pink and aqua shadows with some curvy lines showing in parts of the screen, center seems ok but very out of focus towards the sides. we tried the magic focus but no fix. we tried the manual focus and some improvement but fixing the right side screws up the left side. The magic focus ends on the red screen with 3 lines below the center word. Also the red seems to be the problem when we try to manually focus it.

    i think You have a defective light engine and you do not have to be under warranty for
    Hitachi to replace this part. We just went through this and here's what you need
    to do. Call Hitachi's customer relations department at 800-654-7013 and tell
    them that you have a defective light engine. They will act like they've never
    heard of this problem but they have. They will give you the names of some
    certified dealers in your area to call. Once a tech comes out and confirms that
    it's the light engine, call Hitachi back and they will send a brand new light
    engine to the dealer and Hitachi will cover the cost of the part (cost $1500).

You do have a failure in the convergence circuit of your set. If you are good at soldering you can replace the IC's yourself. They are on the large circuit board on the left side of the set looking from the back, and attached to a large aluminum heat sink. If you don't feel comfortable doing that, I reccomend removing the board and sending it to PTS corp in Indiana. They are pretty reasonable repairing boards, and a lot less than buying a new one.

Red horizontal curvy lines

You need to turn the voltage on the red tube down slightly, also you would need to adjust focus to compensate for the lower voltage to the red tube. On the left and right bottom side of speaker cover are two round covers, take them out and there are 2 1/4" hex screws take them out carefully take cover off, there is another service cover same hex screws remove. You will see the focus block on the right side, tubes are labled on block. 2 knobs for each tube. Make voltage adjustments while tv is on a black screen, then for focus, turn color all the way off in the menu, and adjust focus until it looks right in black and white. These adjustments should only be very small; if alot of adjustment is needed, you may have other issues.

Good Day, beekae;
No, there no other adjustments that can be made, the TV has had a Convergence Circuit Failure. The "CCF" is caused by that circuit, please call an Authorized Service Center and get an estimate. The avg cost is about $550.00. Good Luck, big IRISH.
PS or come back and I'll tell how to fix, if you are handy and own a good soldering station.

PINK/GREEN SHADOWS, LINES

Here is what I was able to find out about your problem from sony: This issue is usually caused by some type of nearby magnetic interference, such as unshielded stereo speakers placed too close to the TV. These spots can be small or large and will normally be red, green or blue, but sometimes appear purple or pink. They normally occur on the sides or corners of the screen, but can also appear in the middle. To resolve this issue, move any stereo speakers or other electronic devices away from the TV; a minimum of 2-3 feet is recommended. If the situation is not remedied immediately, unplug the power cord of the TV from the electrical outlet for 20-30 minutes; repeat this process one more time if the issue is not resolved the first time. If the issue is still unresolved, service may be required. The Sony® eService Web site at http://eservice.sony.com/ can assist you in obtaining service from a Sony Service Center or locating a Sony Authorized Servicer in your area. Hope this is helpful:)
